The Wilmot Word - 8-19-22
What a Great First Week
Hello Wilmot Families!
Thank you to all of our staff, students, and parents for making this a great first week of school. Our staff kicked off the week with professional development and planning sessions to support our students as we return to a more typical year. It was so nice to see students working together, sitting on the carpets, and eating and socializing with friends in the lunchroom. Students loved reading the welcoming messages our staff left for them on the sidewalks as we "Chalked the Walk" for opening day. You will also notice the fabulous banners and signs designed by students to help us kick off the 175th birthday of Wilmot School.
We are off to a smooth start, and I am looking forward to a wonderful school year for our Wilmot students, staff, and families. I hope to see you tonight.
Eileen
P.A.W.S.
P.A.W.S. stands for Positive Actions at Wilmot School and is a comprehensive school-wide positive behavior support program implemented to create a school where all students feel safe and ready to learn. P.A.W.S. is rooted in four simple, yet very powerful school-wide expectations, which are listed below.
Practice Respect
Act Responsibly
Work Together
Stay Safe
Our staff has been reviewing these rules as they pertain to the halls, bathrooms, lunchroom, and the playground. Students were directly taught the behavior expectations, and we will continue to reinforce the expected behaviors throughout the school year

Open House /Curriculum Night (2nd posting)
Open House is an opportunity for parents/guardians to visit their child’s classroom, meet the teacher and learn about our curriculum. Classroom teachers will share information regarding school/classroom curriculum, instructional practices, parent communication, and classroom and school procedures. Our teachers will also answer any questions that you might have.
You will also have an opportunity to meet representatives from our specials and student services departments as well as our instructional coaching team.
In order to accommodate all parents/guardians in the classroom and the parking lot, we will hold our open house over two nights. Kindergarten, first and second-grade families will join us on Monday, August 29, and families with children in third, fourth, and fifth grades will join us on Tuesday, august 30. Please click the link below to view the schedule for each grade level. We look forward to seeing all of our families for an in-person open house.
Is your child symptomatic for COVID?
As a reminder; if your child is presenting with COVID-19 symptoms, we will be continuing to accept home test results via our website. Here is the link to submit your child’s home test results (please select your child’s school from the drop down menu). If you have any questions or concerns about your ability to access home tests during the school year please reach out to Joanna Ford at jford@dps109.org.
SHIELD Take Home Testing Begins Next Friday
If your family opted in prior to August 11th, expect your child to bring home testing supplies next Friday along with information on what to do. Those that opted in after our initial deadline will begin testing next month.
Turn in those required health forms!
There’s still a few weeks to accomplish this. Check this list by grade to make sure you’ve got all the right forms submitted!
