Great Week @ AHS!

Hello Raider Nation --

As I warned you, this past week was a busy one – culminating with our crazy Friday! Thank you all for your cooperation as we navigated PARCC testing, ice cream celebration, senior celebration, senior shadow day (did you like my Joseph Abbate impression?), and the big one – PROM.

First, a shout out to James Woomert and Eric Posner who had their spring concerts last week. It is amazing the talent we have in our school – both students and teachers. Katie Meloro’s choir concert is this week (Tuesday). Come out to hear the kids if you can.

Prom went extremely well. A huge THANK YOU to all the staff that volunteered and came out. It was nice to see so many of you there supporting our kids! Congratulations to Chuck and Sergeant G. for a smooth prom. My philosophy is the best prom is an uneventful prom! Aside from one minor hiccup, things went extremely well.

This coming week continues our testing. We will finish up with Algebra I and begin Algebra II testing. Things went very well with our English 10 testing I am told. Thank you everyone for accommodating the hall and room changes. Our AP testing begins this week. Nina put out a list of who will be taking exams and when. Please make note.

As you know, our very own Kathy Koehnlein was awarded the inaugural Work Hard Be Kind Award. She, along with others will be recognized at a ceremony this coming Tuesday, May 7, from 6:30-9 p.m. The celebratory event will be held at Long Reach High School, 6101 Old Dobbin Lane in Columbia, and will include award presentations, music by the Marriotts Ridge High School jazz combo, performance by the All County Improv troupe, and a sweet and savory reception. Tickets are $15 to the event. Please let me know if you would like to attend and we will cover the cost of your ticket! Once again, congratulations Kathy – well deserved!

This coming week is TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK! Several entities would like to show you just how much you are appreciated. Below is a schedule of events so you can plan your exercise routine accordingly

  • Monday – Breakfast (PTSA) / Rita’s Ice (staff meeting)
  • Tuesday – Mission BBQ (Administration)
  • Wednesday – Taco Bar (PTSA)
  • Thursday – Pizza (SGA)
  • Friday – Desserts (PTSA)

Lastly, just a reminder we have a staff meeting tomorrow. It will be held in the cafeteria.

Have a fantastic week!

See you tomorrow!
