Student Scoop
- Are you interested in connecting with a student in another country? When I was in school, I participated in the International Pen Friend program and enjoyed learning about Sigrid, a girl my same age who lived in Austria. I would love to facilitate this program for students in grades 4 and up. It costs $5.50 per student to apply (minimum of 10 students). See me before May 4 for an application!
- Shout out to 7th grader Khloe Schwaniger who qualified for statewide recognition with her high ACT score! Khloe took the ACT as part of the Duke TIP program. Way to go!!!
- Paul Sawyier Public Library is accepting Summer Volunteer applications. If you are interested, let me know and I will get you an application!
- Puzzlement: A bridge made entirely of paper weighs 4.2 tons, bears a load, and uses no screws, bolts, or glue. Click here to see it. How does it work? What else could you do with just paper?
- Nominate a teacher who does a great job meeting the needs of gifted kids in his/her classroom. They will get a small token of our appreciation and we'll share your kind words in an upcoming newsletter. (Parents can nominate, too!)
- Check out the bottom of the newsletter for lots of exciting opportunities for young people below.
Parent Ponderings
- I am considering offering a free Academic Team camp this summer. Let me know if your rising 4th-8th grader might be interested.
- See below for a flyer about Summer Camps at the Aviation Museum of Kentucky.
- Camp Artyfact at the Kentucky Historical Society is always a huge hit!
- Budding actors might enjoy Camp Shakespeare or Summer Academy at Woodford Theatre.
- LexFun4Kids has a great list of different camps in the central Kentucky area.
Teacher Talk
An anonymous parent wanted to recognize Miss Murray for her work. The parent says, "Miss Murray has been such a blessing to my child who didn't have a deep desire to read and analyze texts. This year, that has changed. She loves reading in Miss Murray's class and can't wait to tell me about how she has analyzed a text. She also has blown me away with the writing that she has produced in her class. It is far beyond what I would expect from a 4th grader and she loves to write on her own at home! Thank you for all of your work with her, Miss Murray!"
Nominate a student for recognition by clicking this link and telling me about a gifted kid in your class who really shines.
