LETTER FROM THE CHAMBER BOARD
It’s hard to believe that it’s already June! School is almost over, vacations are starting and the tourists are ready to come into our communities in droves. We have so many opportunities for fun in the Chisago Lakes area, but outside of the obvious fun at the lakes and many wonderful shops and restaurants around the area, what can we suggest to our visitors and ourselves for entertainment?
How about Harmony in the Park? This is a great chance to enjoy the nice weather and listen to some great bands playing hits from yesterday and today. Harmony in the Park starts on June 1st and is every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8:00 through August 3rd. These concerts are free to the public and are held at the Lions Park Bandshell. Each week has a new entertainer, so you have an opportunity to see a great variety of musicians!
Sticking with music, there will also be a jazz concert at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church on June 23rd at 7:00 pm. This is a free will offering admission.
A new option to the area is to check out the Taylors Falls Boat Tours Grand Opening on Sunday, June 5th from 12:30 to 3:30. There will be music and tours.
For those of us who prefer an earlier option in the day, please join us at the Chamber of Commerce office in Lindstrom for Friday Fika, where you can have a cup of coffee and meet locals in a relaxing environment where you can just chat and get to know people. This occurs on the second Friday of every month from 8:30 to 10:00.
There are many more options to take advantage of, and you can find those on the calendar at the Chamber of Commerce website. Please join us for all of these fun and exciting events and spread the word to your neighbors, friends and all of the great people who will be traveling to our communities. We’ll see you there!

Father’s Day Gifts…for your kids
If you’re a dad, you’ll probably get some nice Father’s Day gifts. But your greatest gift may be your ability to help your children. You could start them in the world of investing – and make a few investments on their behalf.
For starters, consider a 529 education savings plan – a tax-advantaged way to save for college. In some states, provided you stay within certain limits, it can also be used to pay for qualified K-12 expenses and registered apprenticeships. Consult your tax professional about your situation.
You also may want to establish a custodial account, known as either UTMA or UGMA. Some earnings in this account will be taxed at the child’s income tax rate.
And if your children have any taxable compensation, you might open an IRA on their behalf and offer to match some of their contributions as an incentive. You can’t contribute directly to the IRA yourself, but you can give your kids money for that purpose.
On Father’s Day, you can show appreciation for the gifts you receive from your children. But by investing in their future, you can gain some longer-lasting satisfaction.

Chisago County HRA-EDA: Microenterprise Grants - Pandemic Recovery for Regional Small Businesses
The Initiative Foundation is pleased to announce a special one-time round of funding to invest in Central Minnesota's smallest businesses as they work to recover from the pandemic.
Thanks to a special grant from the Otto Bremer Trust, one-time grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to businesses that suffered pandemic-related disruptions and losses. This $500,000 program is designed to support fair economic recovery in Central Minnesota by focusing on small businesses that face barriers accessing capital and resources and which suffered setbacks during the pandemic.
This program is designed to support microenterprises with five or fewer full-time employees and less than $750,000 in annual gross revenue. The effort will prioritize …
· businesses owned by women, veterans, and community members of color
· businesses located in small towns and rural areas
· businesses that opened just prior to or in the early stages of the pandemic
· businesses that did not access or were not eligible for prior government COVID relief programs.
The application will open on May 9 and will close at noon on Friday, June 10. Businesses without full-time employees may receive up to $5,000, and businesses with full-time employees may be eligible for up to $10,000. Apply here.

Chisago Lakes Good Neighbors Club
The Chisago Lakes Good Neighbors Club is debuting at Karl Oskar Days with a parade food drive. Their parade float will be collecting non-perishable food items during the parade route. Watch for volunteers of the Good Neighbors Club walking the parade gathering food donations. All items collected will be delivered to the food shelf immediately following the parade. Let’s all give back a little bit to those in need during this wonderful community celebration.
