Newsletter Week 10 Term 3

Sacred Heart School Petone Wednesday 29th September, 2021

Malo e lelei parents and friends

We have come to the final week of Term 3, a term which has been quite eventful. Thanks to everyone for supporting our Alert Level 2 processes. We have been pleased to have the last 3 weeks at school getting back into routines. This week we are celebrating Tongan Language Week as the official week was when we were just coming out of lockdown.

Today we celebrated Catholic School's Day! This is a day to give thanks for Catholic education and the sacrifices made by those who went before us to build our Catholic Schools. We give thanks for the Mission Sisters who gave their time and talents willingly in our school for over 100 years. We follow in their footsteps and share in their Charism. We celebrate all that is special and good about Sacred Heart School Petone and we are pleased to be part of this community. We celebrated with a Liturgy, a Disco and a fun day. Thank you for your support of our school.

Last week we celebrated Te Wiki o te Reo Maori and we would like to thank our Maori students and Whaea Katy for all their hard work leading us in this celebration

Congratulations to Julia Havell and Gerard Duignan on the recent safe arrival of their new granddaughter, Florence.

Thanks to Kate Wasson and the FOSH team for the successful Frock Swap which was held last Saturday.

We have appointed a permanent teacher for Kea Class to start in 2022. As soon as the applicant has accepted the position in writing we will be able to let you all know.

Congratulations to our Year 7 & 8 speech finalists. The speeches were amazing and you all did a great job. Congratulations to Olivia Fairfield who was the winner.

School Production: Our school production will be held on Tuesday 7th December at the Little Theatre. This will of course be dependent on Alert Levels at the time. Next term due to Production lunch will be from 12.30-1.30pm. Tickets will go on sale from November 1st and will be limited to 2 per family until the 15th November. There will be ticket sales for the Dress Rehearsal / Matinee in the afternoon as well. More details in the first newsletter of Term 4.

Classes 2022: This process is now nearly complete but we still need you to let us know as soon as possible if your children will not be returning to Sacred Heart next year. This does not include Year 8's.

Sports Term 4: Touch Rugby and Future Ferns Netball notices were sent home last week and are due back by this Friday 1st October if your children wish to play either of these sports next term.

School Uniform: Term 4 is summer uniform term and we advise you to think about what you need and organise it before the end of this term. All students will require a school sunhat for Term 4.

Teacher Only Day: Friday 22nd October we are having a Teacher Only Day and school will be closed. Please make sure you have made arrangements for your children on that day. The staff will be working on the new Religious Education curriculum.

Term 3 ends at 3pm on Friday 1st October and reopens for Term 4 at 9am on Monday 18th October.

Thought for the Week

You are most welcome to come and join with your children for these Liturgies.

RE in Pukeko

God knew how hard it would be for people to love someone they cannot see or touch.

What did God do to solve this situation?

He sent us Jesus! Jesus was a human person who showed us how to show and share God’s great love with people.

Pukeko class each had a copy of the icon and were given the opportunity to sit in silence and reflect on the following:

Big picture

As we become more familiar with the life of Jesus and the sort of person he was when he lived on earth:

- we recall how he laid his hands on those who were sick in mind and body and healed them,

- we remember how he forgave people and healed them from their guilt and shame,

- we have heard how he blessed people and called the Holy Spirit down upon them,

- we know he called people to take up special leadership roles,

- we have read the stories about when he visited his married friends and how he loved to be around children.
