CSA Lincoln Newsletter

December 18, 2015

A few things on my mind as we head into the break.

Second grade has been working on holiday celebrations from around the world. Students were asked to submit any holiday traditions as part of the project. River put together this wonderful video of their family traditions and Joni said it was fine to share. I'm always impressed with the level of work our students do.

6th grade students said goodbye to Mrs. Heather Pickup today who has filled in for Laura Burbrink this semester. They put together this video and played it at Town Hall Meeting this morning. There weren't too many dry eyes in the crowd. She will definitely be missed.

If you missed the 3rd Grade Musical/6th grade choir last night, you missed a great event. I was very impressed with the performance. They performed in front of a packed house!

The 5th grade Holiday Shop was a success. I did, Principal's Pals (my take on "Shop with a Cop"), and took a few students shopping so they had something to bring home. That experience will be better than any gift I get on Christmas Day.

Thank you to all who brought in gifts for your teachers and the office staff. I think I'll be able to visit Starbucks on a daily basis for the month of January and not pay a dime! We truly appreciate you and hope you have a wonderful Christmas break!

We will see everyone on Tuesday, January 5th

Thank you to all who completed the survey! CSA Lincoln had a record number of parents participate with 158 completing the survey.

What's next?

I'll be compiling the results over the break and presenting them to the CIC in January with recommendations for areas of improvement. I will then share the results, analysis and action plans with you!

It's all about the books!

Check out the ‘new look’ in the library. We have been changing things around. Books (discarded) are being used for a Holiday Tree. The Series books on the Fiction shelves have been turned on their sides and new shelf markers have been added. Lots to see! Mark your calendar for the next Book Fair-February 8-11 and come see the ‘new look’!

Nurse's Note

Please see this note concerning how to prevent and treat head lice. Like any school, CSA Lincoln is not immune to lice. Please read through these tips and feel free to contact our nurse, Leesa Koopman, if you have any questions.

Project Updates

Our Kindergarten classes finished the year off by giving back to the residents at Booth Manor Apartments this week. They sang Christmas songs and gave the residents their homemade fleece blankets.

  • First grade Husky Gram project managers gave away the 2nd quarter prize, which included: Passes to Kidscommons, Hamilton Skate Rink, Yes Cinema, and Simply Pottery. Also a GIANT stuffed husky, a CSA Lincoln blanket and a RCA Tablet.

  • Second graders finished up learning about holiday celebrations around the world. A guest speaker came in and shared about celebrations and festivals in Ghana. The students finished the project by sharing with the class about their family holiday traditions.

  • Third graders finished the year of with fun and celebrations.

  • Fourth grade project managers of the Love Chapel project and a few other select students made a trip to drop off all the donations to Love Chapel. The students took a tour, help sort their items by types and learned just how important it is for them to give back to our community.

  • Fifth grade finished up the year with their big holiday shop.

  • Sixth grade students picked out their myths and are going to start the new year working on their Mythbuster projects

Curious what school lunch is like these days? Maybe not, but we would love for you to come eat lunch with your student(s). It is a great opportunity to connect parents with the school. Are the grandparents looking for something to do? Send them in. Feel free to bring in something to eat or buy a school lunch. If you call ahead, they can prepare a chef salad for you (a staff favorite). Please stop in the main office, sign-in and put on a visitor's badge.

Information on this great program. Both here and at Northside Middle School I have seen HUGE gains for students who are partnered with a "big". If you have time or know someone who would be a good fit, please consider this program.
