Twitter as a Teaching ToolCourse Num: 150 (2)
Madison School District has taken to Twitter! Learn how you can join the twittersphere and make 140 characters work for you. Twitter can be a fantastic tool for teachers if used the right way. Build your professional learning network, create interactive homework assignments, develop effective exit tickets, create instant updates and much more. Learn the proper way to use a # and continue learning past 3pm. By the end of this class teachers will walk away with their own twitter account if they do not already have one, as well as new ideas for incorporating twitter into your daily routine. Workshop attendees who also participate in the #EdTherapy chat on Thursday, December 17 will receive two hours of credit instead of one. This chat will be facilitated by students from the Current Affairs class at Madison High School.

EdPuzzle in The ClassroomCourse Num: 141 (2)
Learn how to use EdPuzzle to enhance student learning. EdPuzzle allows you to upload any video and add multiple choice/open ended questions during the video to make sure students are aware of what's happening during the video. EdPuzzle allows teachers to formatively assess students and see the results. Learn how to create a video with questions and/or audio comments. EdPuzzle can even be linked to your Google Classroom page. Also learn how to use data from EdPuzzle to inform your teaching. It is a great tool for anybody who wants to use a flipped classroom or needs a way to assess if students are learning from the videos assigned to them. You can even have students make their own videos to see if they really understood the material.

Google Apps & Extensions for Struggling LearnersCourse Num: 143 (2)
Google Chrome has a library of special tools you can access through the browser called Apps and Extensions that can make your life in the classroom easier. Plus, when you use Chrome, all of the apps, extensions and web history are stored in the cloud, so wherever you login, they are literally at your fingertips. In this workshop, you will learn the differences between Apps and Extensions and how they can be used to meet the needs of struggling learners. Participants will leave this workshop with our favorite Apps and Extensions loaded on their Chrome accounts. In addition, we will focus the majority of the time demonstrating Read&Write for Google, which offers a powerful range of support tools to help students gain confidence with reading, writing, studying and research.

New Courses This Week
What is Autism?Course Num: 162 (3)
Autism now affects 1 in 68 children and 1 in 42 boys. New Jersey has the highest rates, with 1 in 45 children overall, 1 in 28 boys. With the incidents of autism on the rise, public schools' inclusion of individuals with autism in the mainstream setting is also on the rise. This course will provide an overview of the characteristics of autism and how to create a successful classroom environment for those diagnosed.

Common Childhood conditions and illnesses: What these mean to the educator.Course Num: 161 (3)
Understanding a wide array of childhood illnesses can help you to better plan, teach, and diversify your instruction. We will learn about Fifth's Disease, Amblyopia, Scoliois, Bronchitis, Dermatitis, Strep Infections, Cholesteoma, Diabetes, Patella Femoral syndrome, etc. These conditions often affect children's attention and ability to learn, as well as their attendance. You will learn what to expect when a child has been diagnosed with such conditions, how they will be treated medically, and how you can prevent the spread of contagious illnesses.
