The Destination Imagination Challenge Program
Each Challenge is open-ended and enables students to learn and experience the creative process from imagination to innovation. Academic tournaments take place around the world where teams have the opportunity to present their solutions to trained appraisers. Students have fun and gain confidence in their ability to solve any challenge. In working to solve our Challenges, teams learn 21st century skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and courage), step outside of their comfort zones to pursue ideas and make presentations, and build on their unique strengths.
After weeks spent creating, developing and practicing their solutions, they compete at the regional tournament. Top-scoring teams in both combined Central Challenge and Instant Challenge components advance to state. The top level of the tournament is our Global Finals—the world’s largest celebration of creativity.
Our programs are developed annually to ensure they are relevant and align to National Education Standards, STEM standards, ELA Common Core Standards and Mathematics Common Core Standards. Every year, with the help of parent volunteers, educators, and subject matter experts, we design new and exciting Challenges for student teams to solve.
Destination Imagination teams that advance past Regional and state tournaments are invited to participate in Global Finals—the world's largest celebration of creativity.
Global Finals is the culminating event of every Destination Imagination season. In May, over 1,600 teams from teams from 45 states, 7 Canadian provinces and 15 countries gather to showcase their Challenge solutions. Over 16,000 people attend Global Finals to celebrate creativity and have fun.
