Thank You

Our first two Late Start Wednesdays have been a huge success. Our amazing professionals have had the time to examine their beginning of the year reading data and are busy helping each other create the best instructional groups with the most impactful instruction for every single child. We are so grateful to our community for making this possible for us.

Important UPE Covid Update:

At present, we have approximately 25% of children wearing masks at UPE (it goes up and down depending on the day). In our tiny school population, we currently have a number of medically fragile people eager to be at school who have a constant fear that they are not as safe as they could be. We are all neighbors, friends, and community members. No matter what our beliefs about masks, I trust we all will guide our children to make decisions that maximize the safety of every single human in our school.

Additionally, during the past few weeks, we have had two confirmed cases of Covid among children. None of these required a school quarantine. Thank you to those parents who followed our District process for notification. At the same time, the number of children coming into the office with sniffles and coughs has been going up. Please know that if your child chooses not to wear a mask and they become directly exposed to a child with Covid symptoms, they could be quarantined for 7 to 10 days. Our number one goal is keeping children learning in person, safely. If a child comes to school sick or becomes sick, we will be calling you to check your child out for the day.

Masks at UPE are strongly encouraged for children and required for adults in the school building. I ask that everyone make the effort to encourage their child to wear a mask. Doing so will

  • Protect our medically vulnerable and unvaccinated

  • Increase the odds that we can maintain in-person learning for all

I thank you for your grace and thoughtful consideration.

  • Mr. Briggs-Hale
