HSD News Round-up

Keeping the Hockinson community in the loop!

HSD Schools Enter a New ERA of Teaching & Learning

Hockinson Schools are aligning around three primary facets of its teacher evaluation model to increase student learning and achievement. You can read more about the ERA model here on our website.

… and Believe We are Stronger Together

Recent acts of discrimination at our schools have challenged our unrelenting commitment to “provide a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment that supports high academic and behavior expectations for all.” (Goal 2 of the 2021-24 HSD Strategic Plan). We ask that everyone in our school communities remember that our schools are at their best when our staff, students, and families treat each other with understanding, respect, and kindness. Every classroom and school consists of individuals with different abilities, skin colors, backgrounds, and beliefs. For our schools to be safe and successful, these differences must be looked upon as strengths, not deficits and as a source of unity, not division.

Fall Sports Update

“....and they’re off.” High school sports (Girls Soccer, Football, Volleyball, Boys Golf, Cross Country, Girls Swim) and Middle School Sports (Cross Country and Volleyball) are underway. Schedule information is available here: HHS and HMS.

The first home HHS Varsity Football game kicks off at 7 PM this Friday, September 17 at Hockinson Stadium. Come, show your Hockinson spirit, and:

  • Have dinner at the game! Hamburgers ($4) and Hot Dogs ($3) will be barbequed on-site by Chartwells Food Service. The HHS AAA Boosters will be accepting cash or credit card payments for these hot food items as well as all other pre-packaged concessions.
  • Pick up your HHS Spirit & Football Apparel! Sundee Racanelli will be selling HHS hats and gear.

  • Stay safe! Wear your mask. Wash your hands. Watch your distance. You can view all of the safety measures for this game here.

  • We are unable to stream this game. We are looking for a way to stream our 9/24 game vs. R.A. Long for our home viewers.

HSD Restarts COVID Dashboard

As COVID cases continue to rise in Clark County we are redoubling our commitment to the health of our staff and students. We are also committed to keeping the community informed on Covid numbers here in our schools. So the HSD has restarted its Covid Dashboard to keep families informed on current case numbers. This Dashboard will be updated daily and will include a page for district totals and a specific tracking page for each school. The Dashboard will take the place of schoolwide email notifications of positive cases in individual schools. However, parents will continue to be notified in the event that their student is identified as a close contact of a positive Covid case.

Reminder: Public Access to HSD Campuses Limited During School Year

To ensure the safety of our students, staff, and facilities, public access to HSD campuses is limited during school hours Monday - Friday. Our community is welcome to use our facilities prior to 8 am and, if available, after 4 pm. Additional information on accessing our campuses can be found here.

1-2-3 Grow & Learn

Hockinson families are invited to join 1-2-3 Grow & Learn classes beginning Monday, Sept. 13. These free virtual preschool activities are offered through ESD 112. Read more about this popular preschool program here.

PWT Invites Families to Give More 24! … on September 23!

On Thursday, Sep. 23, Hockinson will have a chance to be a part of Southwest Washington's Day of Giving. The HSD has partnered with the Hockinson PWT to raise funds to complete an all-volunteer Early Learning Garden at the Hockinson Community Center. Even more exciting is that The Honorable Frank L. and Arlene G. Price Foundation has awarded the PWT a grant of $9,000 provided we can raise the funds to match that grant! You can read more about the story here.
