New Staff Members:
We have some new faces here at Plainview Elementary! We are excited to introduce the following teachers and staff members to you:
Mrs. Haselhorst → Vocal Music: Mrs. Haselhorst is coming to us from Pierce Elementary. She has several years of experience teaching vocal music and will be working with Preschool, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students in our building as well as all JH/HS students who participate in choir. We are VERY excited to have her on our team!!
Mrs. Hoffman→ First Grade: Mrs. Hoffman has been with us for several years as a paraeducator in our Preschool program. Last Spring she graduated with her teaching degree, so this year she will be shifting into a TEACHING position! We are super excited to have her working with our first grade students!
Mrs. Hostert → Title I Reading/Math: Mrs. Hostert just graduated from UNL and is getting married in just a few months (we are going to cheat and use her married name early). Fun fact about Mrs. Hostert: she has a relative who will be in third grade this year...I wonder if you can figure out who it is!!! We are so lucky to have her on board to work with students in reading and math!
Mrs. Janke → Paraeducator: Mrs. Janke just moved back to Nebraska! She is excited to work in both libraries with Mrs. Yilk. She comes to us with several years of library experience from Wayne State’s library. Welcome to Plainview Public Schools, Mrs. Janke! We are happy to have you.
Miss King → Art: Miss King just graduated with her K-12 Art degree, and is very excited to meet students in 2nd-12th grades. She loves baking, painting, and creating jewelry. I think you all are going to be excited to meet her and see the art room too! Welcome aboard, Miss King!
Mrs. Yilk → Media/Library: Mrs. Yilk has been with Plainview Public Schools for several years too. This year she is diving into the role of our media/STEM/library teacher as well as the librarian for the Elementary and High School library! She has been working really hard to make some fun changes in both buildings! Welcome (again) Mrs. Yilk!!
School Supply Lists
School supply lists for all grade levels (preschool through sixth grade) can be found on our school website. Please check: www.plainviewschools.org and scroll down to the “Latest News” section to find the lists.
Teachers worked hard to ensure that the lists they created were specific to the needs of their classrooms. While buying additional supplies may be tempting, please follow the lists that each teacher set and do not bring additional personal items and/or supplies to school.
School Newsletters - We are going digital!
Library Books
If you did not receive your child’s report card in the Spring, they may still have library books that have not been returned! Letters will be coming home the first week of school with any student who has missing books. Fines will need to be paid in order for students to have access to the library this year.
Please contact Mrs. Yilk with any questions.
Open House
We will be welcoming students back in a new way this year! On Wednesday, August 12th we will have an Open House from 4:00p.m. until 6:00p.m.. During this time, students can come to school, meet their teacher, and drop off any school supplies they may have.
In an attempt to ensure we are able to social distance while attending the Open House, students will be broken down into time slots based on their last names. Please see the breakdown below:
Last names starting with A-H: 4:00-4:30
Last names starting with I-P: 4:45-5:15
Last names starting with Q-Z: 5:30-6:00
*If you are unable to attend during your child’s assigned time slot, please contact the office for the best alternate time.
I will have a short parent meeting in the multipurpose room (cafeteria) beginning at 4:15, 5:00, and 5:45 to let you know about some of the things we have coming up this year. These meetings should only take 10-15 minutes. Please plan on attending this meeting.
School Pictures
Start practicing those beautiful smiles, because Plainview School Picture Day is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2020! This year picture orders have shifted to ONLINE ordering. Please be on the lookout for those forms at the start of the school year. You will find directions for ordering, and all the information you need there.
Plainview Elementary Parent Survey
Please only fill out ONE SURVEY per elementary child. We appreciate your time and your feedback.
