The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community building, the student council is the voice of the student body. The student council helps share ideas, interests, and concerns with teachers, administration and the PTA. They often also help raise funds for school-wide activities in collaboration with the Service Club, including social events, community projects, and helping people in need.
Congratulations to the students elected and ALL of the students who took a risk and ran for office. The staff is so proud of the students who prepared speeches, delivered clear messages and took an interest in serving the school community. There will be an opportunity for all interested students in grades 3, 4 and 5 to serve on the Student Council starting in January.
Student Council meetings and activities are supported and run by Mrs. McGuire, Ms. Hinkle, Mrs. Loechner and Mr. Chaney.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE REMINDERS
Do you have an appointment for your parent-teacher conference??
Parent-teacher conferences are coming up on Thursday, December 5th, Tuesday, December 10th, and Thursday, December 12th.
If you do not have an appointment, please contact your child's teacher this week to ensure that you have the time you deserve to talk about your child. Reminders will be sent from teachers this week to make sure you have the correct date and time.
We want to help...but you know your child best!
When it comes to knowing how your child is progressing in school, you have several puzzle pieces to put together. You know what makes him/her light up and what causes him/her frustration. Report cards reflect your child’s effort and progress toward learning goals but there are other tools teachers rely on to determine students’ grade level. All of these pieces are important to understanding your child’s progress and achievement so you can support learning skills at home. Please complete this questionnaire by Sunday, December 1st. The questionnaire is available below in electronic format. Hard copies will also be made available at the parent workshop and are attached as printable files below.

PERSONALIZED LEARNING PANEL
Congratulations Mrs. Grandinetti!
On Tuesday, November 19, Chief Academic Officer Irene Parisi moderated a panel discussion with teachers from across the District representing grades K-12. This panel shared stories and examples of personal learning methodologies applied to their own classrooms and answered questions from PTA members across all schools in the District.
Heard during the panel discussion were anecdotes about students feeling empowered when they help design their learning journey, teachers learning the strengths and interests of each of their students, and the benefits of personal learning across every grade level, as evidenced by Mr. Andrew Bramante's research-based course for high school seniors that relies heavily on individual goal-setting and problem-solving - key aspects of personal learning that are started in Kindergarten.
Personalized learning is defined by the District as, "a teacher-facilitated process that provides each student with meaningful choice, guided by a standards-based curriculum, in what, where, how and at what pace and appropriate depth, they learn, based on individual strengths, needs, motivations, interests, goals and cultural backgrounds."
We are proud that JC's own Mrs. Sandra Grandinetti, 4th grade teacher, was asked to be part of this panel discussion!
