This week we started our new Unit of Inquiry: How the World Works

Transdisciplinary Theme: How the world works

  • An inquiry into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment.

Central Idea:

  • Communication takes various forms and can be transferred in many ways.

Lines of Inquiry:

  • There are Many ways of Communicating
  • Knowledge has been persevered over time.
  • Energy, like communication, travels in various ways
  • The technology of communication is continually changing.

Math- A FRACTION from the finish line!

In math we are finalizing and practicing all the concepts that we have learned so far. The next two weeks we should finish covering and reviewing all of our content standards required for each grade level and will soon move to geometry and measurement!

Practicing for the Benefit Gala

HURRY to buy your tickets before prices go up on the 27th!

Our class has been chosen to perform at the Benefit Gala in order to represent Tarbiyah Academy and our Internationally Minded students! Please note that we are using a portion of our recess to prepare for this and the students are really excited to represent their school. Please purchase your student tickets so that they may show all of their hard work and be at the dinner together as we will greatly miss those who don't come!

New Library

Check out all of our new library Books! Students have been "Book Shopping" all week and learning about how to pick a book that will be a good fit for them individually. This is one of the skills of a successful reader and our class has been quite THINKERS when it comes to picking what is best for them. They are all really excited to have so many books to choose from!

Language Arts-Poetry

Students will be working on our Unit for poetry. We will be starting a poetry reading assignment in which students will pick their favorite poem and read it for the class in a few weeks. Students will need to read the poem of their choice with fluency and intonation using correct tone and expression as well as provide a short summary of what they think it means. There will be more to come on this as we work through our poetry unit.

Science Corner

Students have been keeping ongoing documentation from our class pets including our turtles and crayfish. Recently our Crayfish molted which we know happens as they grow too big for their exoskeleton. So now we know that the Crayfish is growing! Check out his skeleton shell!
