Take some time to ask your children about our new lunchtime guidelines and table baskets!

We have been working super hard this month with our students and staff to establish some new procedures. We know that our new system will make for a safe, smooth and relaxing lunchtime.

Come visit us for lunch to check things out! You'll notice this poster (below) now hanging in our cafeteria. We would appreciate all visitors setting a fantastic example for our students as well, and hope to see you soon!

Nurse G Loves Lysol!

Thank you for your Lysol donations! Please keep them coming as flu season is right around the corner.! We want to make sure we take care of all of our students and teachers. If you can, would you please pick up a can or 2 (pictured at left) to send to the clinic? Thank you for your help and support to keep everyone at Big Creek healthy!

Sincerely,

Nurse G

Beep, Beep!! Oct 22-26 is Bus Driver Appreciation Week

Anyone can drive a car, but it takes someone special to drive a school bus. That's why we want to thank our bus drivers for going the extra mile with our precious cargo. Please let our bus drivers know how much they mean to you and your child with a hand made card or something special. Remember, it's a long walk to school without a bus driver!

"Life is Your Journey; Travel Drug-Free" -- Red Ribbon Week, Oct 23-26

We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week on Tues., Oct. 23 - Fri., Oct. 26. The Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of young people. It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Show your personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle:

· Wear red on Tuesday, October 23

· Wear your shirt backward on Thursday, October 25 because we turn our backs on drugs

· Wear crazy socks on Friday, October 26 because we are socking it to drugs

Come aboard and travel "Around the World"

Mark your calendars for October 25 when we will enjoy learning about various cultures from around the world at a night filled with friends, food, facts, and fun. The Around the World Committee needs volunteers before and during the event. If you are able to help, please email AroundTheWorld@bigcreekespto.com to help make this event a success! See you in a few weeks.

Additional Resources for Parents

Parent Toolkit is a one-stop resource developed with parents in mind. It’s produced by NBC News Education Nation and supported by Pearson and includes information about almost every aspect of your child’s development, because they're all connected. Healthy, successful children can excel in many areas – in the classroom, on the court, and in their relationships with peers and adults. Our advice also covers important topics for navigating life after high school.” http://www.parenttoolkit.com/grade-levels/elementary-school

Dojo Dedicated to Making a Difference

Sharon Springs Dojo has been serving schools in Forsyth County for more than 15 years. You may think Dojo is just kicks and punches, but it’s much more than that.

“We know we can impact this generation,” said Josh Horwege, owner of Sharon Springs Dojo, “With one of our company goals being to give back to the community, we find that being a Partner in Education is a terrific fit.”

While Dojo is staffed with accomplished experts in the sport, they pride themselves on their ability to connect and inspire children.

“The unique thing about Dojo is that every student comes to us for a different reason,” said Josh. “Some need physical activity or self-control while others want self-defense. Regardless the reason, our aim is to strengthen their future.”

Dojo offers two programs for students – evening karate classes as well as an afterschool program (both part-time and full-time) where your child is picked up from Big Creek and transported to Dojo.

“It takes a village to raise children,” said Josh. “That’s why it’s great to have the parent, the school and Dojo all on the same page.”

Dojo is located at 1595 Peachtree Pkwy (Sharon Kroger shopping center). For more information, contact them at 678-208-0295.
