Student Council Elections
This year, in connection with the Presidential election, and Doyle’s 50th Anniversary, Doyle held Student Council Elections. The student council will help develop and run special events throughout the year to help celebrate Doyle’s 50th Anniversary.
The students went through the process of signing petitions for candidates interested in running for president and vice-president. After which, the student body was divided into the Red, White and Blue parties. The parties met and heard speeches from their candidates. Primary elections were then held to select candidates from each party to run for Student Council President and Vice President.
Once candidates were chosen from each party, debates were held and candidates made posters, shared their platforms during morning announcements and met with the student body during lunches.
The Red Party Candidates were: President – Ella Davis, Jackson Estes, Lina Hofmann
Vice-President – Victoria Gonzalez, Connor Morocco, Lucy Sanford, Cooper Tyksinski
The White Party Candidates were: President – Lyla Campbell, Kyle Flaherty, Taylor Gausch
Vice-President – Emily Gerstein, Sean Kelly, Nia Perry
The Blue Party Candidates were: President – Kieran Campbell, Daniella Shore, Lorelai Smiley, Isabella Wi
Vice-President – Emily Laphen, Gianna Miller, Dean Nguyen
The candidates for President in the general election were:
Jackson Estes, Lina Hofmann, Kyle Flaherty, and Kieran Campbell.
The candidates for Vice-President in the general election were:
Gianna Miller, Lucy Sanford and Nia Perry.
All other students who ran in the primaries were elected to student council.
The winners of the general election were Kyle Flaherty, President, and Gianna Miller, Vice President.
Congratulations to all the students who ran for Doyle’s Student Council!
Wing Tips
We tip our wings to Mrs. Kerns, Jonas Primiano’s grandmother, who spent Monday helping our students with the voting process. She was a quick study, not only with the process, but also in the technology skills needed to record the votes and refresh the laptops. Thank you, Mrs. Kerns, for your time and expertise!

From the Counselor
What Maintains Anxiety?
- It causes distress
- The child seeks avoidance/escape
- When the escape is given, the temporary relief reinforces the escape behavior
- There is temporary relief
Two quick tips or strategies might help in managing your response without providing an escape:
- Do not provide excessive reassurance: Repeated “You’ll be ok…it’s ok…you’ll be ok…” to a child tells them that you’re worried too which will reinforce their anxiety
- Keep your response short – acknowledge the fear or worry and then move on from the fear to talk about a plan or use a strategy
“Worry Time”: Allow your child to discuss their worries during a designated time of the day except for bed time
- Set a timer for your agreed upon time (around 5 minutes)
- When the child brings up a worry and it is not your “worry time” remind them to save it for then. “That sounds like a worry thought…I’ll hear it at 4:30 during worry time.”
- Only the important worries will come up at worry time
