The Wildcat G.R.O.W.L
Growing our Reading, Oral Language, Writing, and Life Skills
April 25- May 2
MAP testing has begun! I am super proud of all our testers. This is your chance to show everyone your hard work and all of your new learning! I am also enjoying the opportunity to sit side by side with students as they read and talk about books with me for end of year benchmarks. GROWL groups will not start back up until after EOY testing the week of May 9th.
Also, please sign up for summer EXPLORE! You can access registration at sps.org or contact me at Watkins 523-5000.
Reading, Writing, and Talking
Our daily reading interventions focus on reading grade level books, talking about the books, and writing about the books.
I would encourage you to ask your child about their weekly book study so you can have some Dinner Table Talk about favorite books. Click on the hyperlink to get discussion cards for your Dinner Table Talk.
K and 1st groups- Character studies from beloved books like Olivia, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Curious George, Frog and Toad, and Arthur's Chicken Pox. You can check out these books at the Watkins Library or look for them online.
2nd grade group- The Littles by John Peterson. Students LOVED the Littles books and I was able to purchase a copy of every one of the Littles books. There are almost 30! Students are welcome to borrow my copies.
3-5- Students are showing their best on the MAP and BAS benchmark tests over the next few weeks. I am SO proud of their perseverance!
Choose Your Own Adventure- Optional Choice Board
These are some enrichment activites that your child can do on their own. If they write any stories, make Google Docs, or want to respond to an activity or book they read, they can send me a message on Canvas or send me an email at jgrable@spsmail.org. They can also share Google Docs with me at jgrable@sps.org
There are new spring recipes, STEAM activities, and a creative writing square all new for you! Check out the botanical center field trip. It is Steven Sebastian's favorite place to be!
