COMMUNITY NEWS
First Annual CPMS Science Festival a Fun Success!
A big thank you to our amazing science team of teachers and all the parents and staff that made this event happen, especially parent coordinator, Julie Larson, and all our community volunteers who came in into interview our young scientists. #kidstoday
YOUR MONEY AT WORK: Art Lit Makes Magic at CPMS
Cedar Park’s Art Lit team is hard at work to bring the world of Piet Mondrian to our 1000+ students this winter. 6th graders just had their lesson this past Wednesday, with 7th & 8th grades are coming up in the next two weeks.
This student enrichment program would not be possible without willing volunteers. Please see below to sign-up for a fun (and rare!) art experience with your student.
Anyone interested in volunteering for art lit can email artlit@cedarparkptc.org. No art experience required, though all volunteers will need to have a background check through the mIP system.
Cedar Park’s Art Lit program is funded by your generous 5K donation.
6th Grade Takes on Piet Mondrian!
YOUR MONEY AT WORK: Library Upgrades Continue
CPMS LMA, Debbie Hernandez, shares that students "all love it" and the new couch, loveseat, chair & ottoman have already become popular. The former couch situation was... beyond repair, so this furniture is a welcome and durable addition.
These is the second year of continued library upgrades, funded by your generous 5K donations. Last year's effort included a modular couch and new bistro tables.
CPMS to Host "Technology Support for Parents" on Wed, 1/29
CPMS will be hosting a “Technology Support for Parents” workshop on Wednesday, 1/29 from 6:30-7:30pm. Kevin "Mac" McMillian, BSD Administrator for Information Technology, will be the workshop presenter. Mac leads the networking, security, systems administration, and telecommunications teams.
Come meet with one of our district technology leaders to learn about our district networks, our security systems we have in place and are developing, and what you can do as a parent to stay up-to-date and informed about your student's online activities and safety.
Chromebooks will be on hand, but feel free to bring your own device. Refreshments will be served.
Middle School Boundary Adjustment to Affect CPMS, Parent Input Vital
Time to sit up, Cedar Park.
Beaverton School District is in the process of redrawing the middle school boundaries, set to begin in 2021-22. This process will have a dramatic effect not only on our boundaries, but also on our community and school funding.
It is very important that parents become involved in this process and voice their opinions and concerns over potential changes. These decisions will affect every current CPMS family.
The Nuts & Bolts
The newest middle school is located within Cedar Park’s boundary, meaning many of our current feeder schools may be rezoned. The current round of maps have our boundaries fluctuating wildly. This most recent committee packet and test maps can be found on the BSD Middle School Boundary adjustment page (scroll to the most current meeting date).
Coffee & Tea with Dr. Anderson, Wed, 2/12
This event will be a chance for CPMS parents to meet, ask questions, and share ideas with our CPMS administration. Learn more about the policies, practices and academics at CPMS in a smaller setting and meet other Cedar Park parents.
ALL PARENTS are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Common Middle School Experience: Family Listening & Learning Session Scheduled for Thursday, 2/6
BSD has announced a Common Middle School Experience: Family Listening & Learning Session on Thursday, February 6, from 6:30-7:30pm in Cedar Park’s library.
Learn more about the Beaverton School District’s efforts to create a common experience at all of our comprehensive middle schools. This effort includes middle school course offerings and schedules that are standardized across the District.
The Beaverton School District is working on a common comprehensive middle school experience, which would include middle school course offerings and schedules that are standardized across the District. Currently, period lengths vary and the number of elective courses students can access are not consistent.
More info can be found at BSD’s Common Middle School Experience webpage.
