Senior Year Timeline

Class of 2016

Here's an idea of what seniors should be doing each month as they prepare for college or other post-secondary plans.

August

  • Think about desired career
  • Request admissions information from colleges of interest
  • Register to retake the ACT/SAT if desired

September

  • Write admission essay
  • Ask teachers for recommendation letters (at least 3)
  • Mark calendars with deadlines
  • Research & apply for scholarships

October

  • Retake ACT/SAT if desired
  • Complete admission applications
  • Attend college visits and college fairs
  • Research & apply for scholarships

November

  • Research & apply for scholarships
  • Follow up on recommendation letters

December

  • Research & apply for scholarships
  • Develop a financial plan
  • FAFSA workshops

January

  • Parents - tax forms
  • Submit FAFSA (www.FAFSA.org)
  • Watch for housing deadlines

February

  • Attend FAFSA frenzy event
  • Rank top schools
  • Ask counselor to send transcripts

March

  • Make final campus visits & finalize your school decision
  • Watch for your student aid report

April

  • April 1st - FAFSA Due
  • Watch for financial aid awards

May

  • Finish any AP exams
  • Plan for a college orientation
  • ENJOY GRADUATION!
