Lord and Lady Capulet
People shouldn't be controlling in other peoples lives!
Act 1, Scene 3
Lady Capulet says to Juliet..."'Well, think of marriage now....Paris, seeks you for his love"'(1007 lines 75 & 81). Paris has asked Lord Capulet to marry Juliet and he has told him that he would let her wed him but he would have to win Juliet over. Her mother(Lady Capulet) has demanded Juliet that she must think of love and to be wed soon.Both Juliet's parents are being controlling by telling her who to wed and what to think of.
Act 3, Scene 4
Lord Capulet talks wedding plans with Lady Capulet with out Juliet's permission..."'A Thursday be it then....Prepare her, wife, against this wedding day"'(1062 lines 33-35) Juliet doesn't wish to marry Paris because she is already wed to Romeo, and her parents are going to force her to wed Paris anyways, thus being steering of her life.
Act 4, Scene 1
Lord Capulet demands the nurse,"'Go, nurse, go with her. We'll to church tomorrow"' (1077 lines 40-41). Lord Capulet demands nurse to go with Juliet to get her a gown(sort of like a bridal dress), Lord Capulet tells Nurse to get Juliet ready for a wedding even though Nurse knows that she is already wed.Nurse does as directed because she doesn't wish to be fired or commended at, This makes Lord Capulet very controlling over Nurse.
Theme_ Act 5, Scene 3
Friar Lawrence tells The Capulets the death of Juliet is do to their telling her what to do..."'Betrothed and would have married her perforce to County Paris....true Romeo dead....did violence on herself"'(1100-1101 lines 262-288) Friar Lawrence tells the Capulets that by forcibly telling Juliet to marry Paris that they not purposefully killed Juliet. Juliet made the decision to not wed Paris and her parents were about to force her to, thus being controlling in her life. If only The Capulets hadn't forced young Juliet to be wed to Paris would Romeo still be alive, thus making Juliet still well too.
