Attendance
As we return to hybrid and ask families to commit to hybrid or remote, please remember we need a parent note from you if your child is expected to be at school on their hybrid day and you choose to stay remote. Present Remote is only used if your child is ill but not working remotely due to Covid protocols. We also ask you to update our Pick Up Patrol with any changes to your child's attendance.
Winter Weather
As our temperatures continue to fluctuate, we do ask that your child dress in layers and be prepared for the changes. We will always go outside, even if just for a few minutes to get some fresh air, if it is not raining or snowing! If a coat, hat, or glove does not make it home, please ask your child to check our lost and found. We have a small collection already! We do scan these items regularly for a name so that helps get items back.
Winter also means potential weather related delays, closings, and/or early dismissals. Please make sure we have your most current email addresses and phone numbers on file. Make sure you are signed up for WCASD alerts. If you are not, please check out the button below.
From the Nurse's office
- This is a reminder for parents who I have contacted previously about missing PA State mandated immunization, medical and dental information. I would appreciate it if you would send the information in to me as soon as possible. If you have already sent the information in to me, you can disregard this reminder. Thank you if you have sent the information in!
- Please remind your child(ren) to wear their masks properly unless they are in a mask break area or eating or drinking. Their mask should cover their nose and mouth.
- Please remind your child(ren) to stay 6 feet or more away from others as much as possible.
- Continue with frequent hand washing.
- Please keep your child(ren) home if they are sick. Related, we would appreciate it if you would include Mrs. Dugan on any communications you send to teachers or Mrs. Fithian about any absences due to illness or any other health related issue.
- Good nutrition, exercise, lots of H20, adequate sleep, reducing stress all are important ways to prevent illness!
- Thank you for all you are doing to keep our HDE community safe!

We have a few changes as the children return. While breakfast and lunch will continue to be free to all students, breakfast will now be served in the cafeteria rather than delivered to the classroom in grades 1-5.
The children will be attending their specials (Art, Library, Music and PE) in the specials' classrooms, so please be sure they have pencils, crayons, scissors and glue in their pencil bags to bring to school for Art and Library.
We will be adding some small recess equipment (balls) to the playground as well.
Looking forward to a great week!
January 4, 2021 - Happy New Year!
Well here we are 2021! I know we are all hoping for a fresh start! 2020 was certainly not what any of us expected, but there were some silver linings. I am thankful for all the time I had with my family as my children will be flown in 2021 and my husband and I will be empty nesters!
I am so thankful for the Hillsdale community! The teachers, parents, and community stepped up to unimaginable situations and handled it with grace and perseverance, what an amazing lesson for our students! Last year my one word was "patience," who knew I would need as much as I did! This year, I am going with "perseverance." I know we as a school community will continue to "persist in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success."
Here's to a great year ahead!
