JOB SHADOWING OPPORTUNITIES IN ST. CHARLES
After a brief COVID-related pause, the city of St. Charles is once again offering job shadowing opportunities for Compass Academy students on Wednesdays! In the city's career pathway job shadow program, Compass students can shadow people in many career fields, including engineering, communications, accounting, firefighting, law enforcement, construction, and vehicle maintenance.
Students may schedule up to three different job shadow experiences per school year, during which they can explore work sites, ask questions, see demonstrations, and learn about education and certifications. Students will be responsible for transportation to and from the City. The date, time, and length of the job shadow will be scheduled outside of school hours directly with the City’s job shadow program coordinator. Compass students should schedule their shadowing on Wednesdays whenever possible.
Interested students should complete the Registration Form and return it to Ms. Ohlson at Compass Academy.
STARTING NEXT WEEK- COMPASS CARES, MONTHLY SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES ON WEDNESDAYS!
Starting next week, Compass Academy students will have one school-directed opportunity per month for service learning on Wednesdays. Students were surveyed about specific opportunities of interest during advisory, and because a significant majority indicated an interest in working with or helping animals, we are excited to announce that the first service learning opportunity will relate to creating items to support animal care at Anderson Humane. We will share more information with students this week about this opportunity to demonstrate global citizenship and develop community connections through the Compass Cares program.
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY THROUGH ST. CHARLES ROTARY CLUB
Do you know any students who are interested in working on their leadership skills? Do they enjoy team building activities with other high school students? Encourage them to apply for the Rotary Club’s RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) conference this spring. St. Charles Rotary Club is sponsoring four students (Freshmen to Juniors) to attend the conference. If, after reading this flyer which contains more details, students are interested, they should get an application from Mrs. Stanley. Completed applications are due by Thursday, February 17th.
