Lansing Elementary Weekly Update
Newsletter for the Lansing Elementary School Family
April 24, 2020
As April is winding down, we hope all of our families and their loved ones are managing the quarantine and are safe. Our staff learned this week that fog is really just a cloud on the ground and that all clouds have silver linings.
No doubt, this whole unexpected experience of COVID-19 has been difficult to say the least. It is certainly nothing we would have ever wished for or wanted, yet if we look closely there are some silver linings in the fog.
My adult children are both home and we have dinner together every night. Something I thought was long ago gone. My family has had the time and space to play pickle-ball and soccer-tennis in our driveway. When my children were younger, we spent a lot of time playing yard games and it has been nice having time to do this again. In my neighborhood, I have seen more families enjoying walks and bike rides together. I hope you and your family have been able to glean some silver linings out of this fog.
I have been enjoying the many video clips and project samples that teachers have shared with me. Thank you for helping your child engage in our continuous learning plan. Please take time to help them watch the daily broadcast of the Lil Roar announcements. They will see many of their teachers making guest appearances. Connection is important during this challenging times and our staff wants to connect with you.
As we start to look forward to the end of school, it has a whole different feel this year than in years past. As we know more about what is next for K-12 education based upon the recommendations of Governor Kelly and the health department, we will keep you updated. We can't wait to have us all back together in our building! Until then, stay safe and enjoy the silver linings that this unexpected event can offer.

Welcome-Dr. Jennifer Kolb-Assistant Principal LES/LIS (2020-2021)
A note from Dr. Kolb
Hello! I’m Jennifer Kolb. Some of you may know me from Lansing Middle School as the 6th grade Eagles Team science teacher (and the Cat Pack science teacher before that). Working in Lansing over the last 15 years has provided me amazing opportunities; some of which include traveling to China and Japan and working in a leadership capacity at both the building and district levels.
Joining the Elementary School and Intermediate School teams is exciting! A little about me: I grew up in a military family in Berlin, Germany and attended college in Washington state. My Master’s in Human Relations was completed through the University of Oklahoma and most recently I earned my Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
I’m a proud military spouse and we have two daughters who are 3 and 7. In my free time I enjoy hiking, bike riding, and camping. I can’t wait to start working with all the wonderful staff, students, and families at both the Elementary and Intermediate schools. There are so many initiatives that I am excited to be a part of including MTSS and PLC’s. I am hoping to see you all soon!
Stay safe- Jennifer
