Be. Here. Now.

About me

Hello. My name is Heidi Holycross-Lui, and I am an Intensive English Program instructor at the University of Northern Colorado. I have been in this position for about two years now, and I think that I have found both my perfect job and the perfect colleagues. I have been fortunate enough to work with bright, energetic people who truly want to make the world a better place for our students. In my classes, I have been given enough freedom to explore new technologies and techniques, including flipping a grammar class and integrating a private social network in my writing class. My passion is helping students, and I want every single one of my students to believe that he or she is my favorite student. As impossible as that sounds, I truly want my students to feel loved and valued as individuals. I also want them to be able to prove to others that they can do whatever they set their minds to. To this end, I work on teaching them the fundamental English skills as well as critical thinking and other 21st century skills.

In addition to my general classroom duties, I was also given the opportunity to design a series of three critical thinking skills classes. I was responsible for creating the basic and advanced levels. Because there are few materials for critical thinkings skills at the basic level, I have been creating and modifying my own materials. I think that this project will eventually lead to an actual book, which is an exciting prospect.

On a more personal level, my word for this year is manifest, which is something that I often have troubles with. I have so many ideas rushing around my head that it can be rather difficult to pick just one to focus on bringing to life. I want to bring more self discipline into my life in order to manifest the ideas i have.

Thank you for reading. I look forward to hearing from you.
