It's in the Bag
Grade: K-5
Big Idea
It's important for all students to learn how to infer. This activity allows students to build background knowledge, infer, and get excited about their next unit of study.
Directions
Before you begin a unit of study, collect three items related to the unit. Place the items in a bag. In front of the class, pull out an item at a time. Allow students to observe the item and infer what the next unit of study will cover. Do this step for each item.
After all items are revealed allow students to discuss their background knowledge and evidence from the items to infer what the next unit of study will cover.
When to use
Use this strategy at the beginning of a unit to grab student's attention and excitement.
Strategy Variations
