As many of you know, this week is Teacher Appreciation Week nationwide. We have incredible, passionate teachers that work extremely hard each and every day.
It’s hard to believe that we only have a few months left to the school year. Please take your children out for walks, play on the playground, and play games around the neighborhood as part of their educational day. Play is an important part of a child's education. Please remember to have your child wear sneakers so she/he has a safe experience outside.
Our Character Education theme for the month of May is “Attitudes and Values”.
Pre-Kindergarten registration is open - please come and register - we still have a few more spaces available. Please contact the Registration Department at (914) 737-3300 ext. 7535
LITERACY
In this unit the students will learn about the season of spring and the changes that happen around us.
We continue to learn letter formation for capital and lower-case letters.
When forming letters, remind your child that we write from top down not bottom up. Reinforce pencil grip and use the helper hand to stabilize the paper.
We are helping our students with rhyming words by immersing them in songs,
Our Teacher Assistant, Ms. Lockett will be showing us how to implement the Heggerty program in our classrooms, to enrich our students' literacy development.
MATH/SCIENCE
In the first half of Module 5, students write numerals 0–5 and count to 20.
They explore addition and subtraction stories with numbers 0–5, a natural way for them to understand adding to and taking from.
Stories are acted out, modeled with objects, drawn, or solved using pictures.
Children ask and answer questions about the story, such as “How many in all?” or “How many are left?” They learn to distinguish the question from the story.
For science, we will take a closer look at the life cycle of a butterfly, chicks, and plants.
We will be observing our caterpillars that will eventually transform into butterflies, and document their progress.
Lectura

April 2022
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Students learning English as a new language will take the New York State English as a Second Language Test (NYSESLAT) in the months of April and May. The speaking part will be given individually between April 18th through May 20th, and your child will be notified.
The listening, reading and writing sessions will be given Monday, May 9th - Friday May 20th. Students will take three sessions according to their grade level. Each part of this test will focus on a different topic that tests listening, reading, and writing. The ENL teacher will inform your child of the three days that your child will take this part of the test. These tests will be administered at the school and not virtually.
The test results provide students, teachers, and parents with an objective report of each student's strengths and weaknesses in the English language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The NYSESLAT test will help determine whether students are making adequate progress toward proficiency in the English language.
Please make sure your son / daughter has gotten enough sleep, eaten breakfast, and gets to school on time. Thank you for your support and please call with any questions.
Sincerely,
Madeline Sanchez
Director of Multilingual Language Programs

Estimados padres y tutores,
Atentamente,
Madeline Sanchez
