Mission Maximize!
LVJHS Weekly Bulletin 10/09/2015
Dear LVJHS Family,
Dave Berry once said the reason man kind will never reach its full potential could be described in one word: "Meetings." While I enjoy Dave Berry's humor and writing, we disproved his sentiment this week. Our faculty meeting on Wednesday was efficient, purposeful, and uplifting. Our elective teachers took on extra student supervision at dismissal to allow core content teachers time to study STAAR4ward learning videos, immediately upon student dismissal. Then, we came together as a staff and Mrs. Herley presented how to use "Socrative"--an incredible instructional technology for formative assessment. Next, we analyzed our STAAR Perfomance Data from last year with Phase I and Phase II standards. We shared our insights and perceptions of this data to build context for the importance of our next steps in improving our instruction with a focus on the Lead4ward Data Process. We left the meeting with a sense of purpose and a plan to address the challenges ahead of us. We have so much to accomplish this year, no doubt! Most importantly, always remember, our capacity to overcome our challenges is so MUCH GREATER than our challenges!!! Our teamwork will lead our students to extraordinary levels of achievement.
Thank you all for making LVJHS a great place for students!

Staff Spotlight: Nicole Powell
We are proud to announce our spotlight Junior High team member for the week is Mrs. Nicole Powell! From a staff member: "Mrs. Powell put together an incredible PBL on the periodic table. Then, she allowed students to showcase their work to each other and also other staff members!" Thank you for taking the time to showcase our students and their achievements.
Fundamental Five Focus...
Critical Writing is considered an essential good teaching practice and should be utilized in every discipline. “Writing is essential to learning. One cannot be educated and yet unable to communicate one’s ideas in written form” (Cain & Laird, 2011, 22). Plan at least two critical writing activities in each of your lessons!
