Learning and Growing Together
Language Workshop
Language Workshop is a time during the day where we dig deeply into books. We work on one book each week, really thinking about the different components of the story including character development, major events and problem/solution. We talk about what the books have in common and how they may differ from each other.
Reading Workshop
Being able to identify all uppercase and lowercase letters and produce the sound that each letter makes are very important foundational skills for all of the reading and writing activities we do in kindergarten. Recently we have been working hard at identifying the beginning sounds of words. We also continue to introduce some sight words. At this time, 9 of the words have been introduced: I, a, be, to, the, go, is, see & and. It is important for Kindergartners to master all 40 Kindergarten Sight Words so that they have a strong foundation for reading. We will continue introducing sight words as the year progresses. Below you will find a list of all of the words we will be learning plus a few extra words that will come up in their reading. It never hurts to practice at home! :)
Math Workshop
One of the Kindergarten expectations is that students are able to count to 100 by the end of the school year. This is a skill that can only be achieved through practice. If your child is not able to count to 100, a great time to practice is while you're riding in the car. See how far your child can count independently and then join in during the tricky parts.

Fall Party
Your child may wear a costume during the party if he/she would like. Please send your child’s costume to school on October 30th; we will not be wearing costumes all day. Because our time for changing clothes will be limited, the costume should be one that can easily slip over the clothes that your child is wearing. Please avoid scary costumes and do not send weapons of any kind. If you are unsure about your child’s costume, please check with us.
Although we all try to be careful to not let things happen, understand that accidents can occur to costumes during the party. If you have any questions, please give us a call. Thank you for your assistance!
