As president pro-tem, Dr. Melissa Kaczkowski called the new board to order.
Election of Officers | watch
President
Dr. Kaczkowski called for nominations for president of the Board. Jess Buttimer nominated Bob Bruno. No other nominations were called. Dr. Kaczkowski announced the uncontested nomination. Unanimous vote naming Dr. Bruno the president of the Board of Education.
Vice President
Julie Hill nominated Jason Loebach as vice president. No other nominations were called. Unanimous vote naming Jason Loebach as vice president.
Secretary
Ted Estes nominated Jessica Buttimer. No other nominations were called. Unanimous vote naming Jessica Buttimer secretary of the Board of Education.
New Business
Establish Time, Date, and Place for Regular School Board Meetings | watch
The Board discussed approving a different calendar than in years past. The Board proposes a regular meeting once a month in addition to five Committee of the Whole meetings throughout the year. The Committee of the Whole meetings would be topic based and an opportunity for community engagement. New Board member Chris Martelli shared his experience working with this type of schedule and the benefits of the Committee of the Whole meetings allowing for community engagement. All meetings would start at 6:30 p.m. Board members asked questions and discussed the proposed changes.

Dr. Kaczkowski also gave an update about the COVID-19 dashboard as related to the work of nurse Katie Adduci.
Restarting the Strategic Plan
Dr. Kaczkowski also updated the Board on the process to restart the strategic plan as well as a survey asking the community about their hopes and dreams for District 41.
First Day Exclusions
First day exclusions for the 2021/22 school year deadline is being extended.
Quarantine Information
A communication was sent out to the community with information about the DuPage County Health Department reaffirming the 14 day quarantine requirement in schools.
