This Week During Advisory
Tuesday- Math
Wednesday- Science
Thursday- ELA
Friday- Social Studies
Advisory Note
When requesting students on the Advisory list, remember to add your name in lower case letters. This is a signal not to override. If a teacher's name is written in all capitals, the student can be pulled. We used the same system last year, but for those new or those that may have forgotten.
Remember to take attendance daily during Advisory.
This is key to making sure all students go to the correct room. If you need help figuring out how best to do this, Travis can give you a few suggestions.
AVID Update
Please don't forget to use the AVID strategy of the month. You can upload evidence to the CMS AVID folder https://drive.google.com/a/gcisd.net/folderview?id=0B4EkHhMa_YaBZC1vMFpSNkkxSlk&usp=sharing (which is also linked in Classroom). Every piece of evidence teachers provide helps make AVID documentation for Sean Clary easier and improves our AVID ratings. CMS is taking AVID campus wide!

Note from the Nurse
Stretch your produce and your dollars by knowing how to store fresh fruits and vegetables!
The American Heart Association recommends 4 to 5 cups of vegetables per day. So let’s talk about how to store them!
Refrigerator temperature should be below 40 degrees.
Always refrigerate cut or peeled produce
Don’t wash, cut, or peel until you’re ready to eat (except lettuce or greens)
Pantry – pack away in cool, dark place like your pantry:
Onions, shallots, garlic
Hard squash (Winter, Acorn, Spaghetti, and Butternut)
Sweet potatoes, potatoes, yams
Watermelon
Countertop – store loose and away from sunlight, heat, and moisture
Bananas
Citrus fruit- store lemons, limes, oranges and grapefruit loose or in a mesh bag.
Refrigerate for longer storage.
Stone fruit- ripen avocados, apricots, nectarines, peaches, and plums in a paper bag, then move to the fridge where they will last a few more days
Tomatoes
Refrigerator – Store in plastic bags with holes, in your produce drawer, unless noted:
Apples and Pears
Beets and Turnips – remove greens and keep loose in crisper drawer
Berries, Cherries, and Grapes – keep dry
Broccoli and Cauliflower
Carrots and Parsnips – remove greens
Celery
Corn – store inside their husks
Cucumbers, Eggplant and Peppers – store on upper shelf, which is the warmest part of the fridge
Fresh Herbs – except basil. Keep stems moist and wrap loosely in plastic.
Green Beans
Lettuce and Leafy Greens – wash, spin or pat dry. Wrap loosely in paper towel and place in a plastic bag in vegetable drawer. Keep stems moist.
Melons
Mushrooms – keep dry and unwashed in store container or paper bag
Peas
Zucchini and Summer/Yellow Squash
Keep them apart!
Fruits like apples, bananas, and pears give off ethylene gas, which can make other produce ripen and rot faster.
Store vegetables and fruits separately.
Keep apples, bananas, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, onions, pears, potatoes, and watermelon away from other produce.
Happy Eating! Your reward for properly stored fruits and vegetables should be delicious!
