Thank you for an AWESOME first week!

There is something to be said for surviving the first week! That said, I had a blast all week. I really enjoyed our time together during the Institute Days, meeting so many families during Preview Night and FINALLY welcoming students to the first day of school!

What a great start to the school year! There is so much to celebrate, I hardly know where to begin. It is exciting that we have all of our kindergarten students here at Prairie Point! I am celebrating that there were no tears today at Door #4! I am also celebrating that I was able to stop by nearly every homeroom class, specials class, lunch period and recess at least one time this week. Not only is it awesome to see the students and watch your classrooms come alive - it is great to get my steps in!!!! I'm also celebrating that I think I have everyone on our faculty's first name down - I'm still working on last names...but I'm way ahead of where I was a week ago! Finally, I am celebrating that I think I have kind of learned how to use this online newsletter that Heidi so kindly left for me. I am starting by using the templates that Heidi left for me. As I get better at navigating these, I'm sure that I will begin to put my own flare into them. On the quite possible chance that I haven't mastered this, you may not even be reading what I am writing...or accessing the links that I've attempted to embed...

What did you celebrate this week? Feel free to shoot me an email with your celebrations. I can't be everywhere, but I still love to hear the good works and little victories in your classroom!

MORE THANK YOUS

Once again, thank you for your patience and your help. I want to learn everything about everything, but I know that it is going to take some time. I am trying very hard to LISTEN to what everyone is saying - be it during meetings or just in casual conversations in passing. I tend to be a "talker" and like to jump right in with suggestions or ideas. However, during this transition, it is so important that I spend more time listening instead of throwing my two cents in. I am incredibly thankful for my administrative team. Jen and Julie have been invaluable when it comes to filling me in on how things work, brainstorming ideas and just being SO KIND and supportive. I feel so lucky!

Senior Center Partnership

Classroom Readers, Listeners, and Partners

Last year, our partnership with the Oswego Senior Center really took off. I have had the opportunity to meet with Sandy Pastore a few weeks back. I was very excited to learn about the partnership and understand the many awesome ways that this program benefited the seniors and our students!

As a reminder, the goal of this program is to develop a two-way relationship across generations.

We will be continuing this again this year. Please let me know if you would like to have a classroom visitor weekly to partner with your classroom as a volunteer, read to your students, or listen to your students read.

News & Info

Jimmy Johns

As a reminder, Jimmy Johns will be bringing sample sandwiches on Monday, August 22nd at 11:40am.

Who's In?

I noticed that Heidi offered some upcoming races and opportunities to keep fit in this section of her newsletters. This seemed like a cool thing to keep up with - and as it turns out the Groves are getting ready to put on our running shoes.

Mattix, Molly and I (along with one of my sisters) are signed up and running the Great Pumpkin Run 5K in Oswego on September 17th. It looks like a super-fun way to kick off fall! If you want to be a crazy over-achiever and run with a 10 pound pumpkin there is extra medal bling for your efforts! I am running with a 7 year old, so I will already have my hands full! The entry fee increases in a day or two...so if you are interested, now is the time!
