Springing Into Action
Hello! Happy March! Believe it or not, we are fast approaching the end of the year. As we get closer, everything will be kicking into high gear. Read on to find out what's happening in the months of March and April.
Spring Conferences
Now that we've finished our Middle of the Year benchmarks and our practice STAAR test, I'd like to have a conference with each of you to discuss your student's progress and a game plan going forward. Please sign up at the link below for a time for us to conference. Because we will begin tutoring after the break, my after-school time is limited, so most slots will be available during my planning period. If this won't work for you, please let me know so that we can work out another time.
STAAR Prep
Although it's not the only thing we focus on, it is true that our STAAR tests are coming up soon (May 8 and 9). As I've been talking about with the students, we've spent all year learning what we need to know to succeed. Now is just the time for us to make sure that we remember everything we've learned.
After Spring Break I will begin sending home homework that looks a little different - math facts practice as well as problem-solving work, and a reading passage similar to the ones they will see on the test. Ask your students to explain the strategies that we use in math and reading and discuss their work with them.
One of the most important things we talk about to be successful is showing your thinking - they need to know that they've carefully considered their options and not just guessed at an answer. Make them show their work and prove their answers on math and reading.

Thank you!
We still have 9 weeks left together, but I just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed having all of your children in my class this year. I have really loved getting to know each and every one of them, and each of you, and I'm thankful for the time we've spent together.
