The 4th Grade News
Week of January 11th, 2016
A Note from Ms. Deal
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a relaxing and happy break. The students have come back to 4th grade rejuvenated and ready to work!
We have been talking about New Year's Resolutions this week. Many of the students have resolved to help you around the house more often! Ask them what they have decided to improve for this year.
Look for homework to change as of Monday. In an effort to begin to prepare the students for 5th grade, we will stop printing a weekly homework sheet. Students will now be responsible for writing down their homework daily in a homework diary.
Next week P.E. will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Please help your student to plan accordingly.
Please let meek now if you have any questions. Have a wonderful weekend!
Thank you,
Ms. Deal

Math Maniacs
The 4th graders got right back into math (only a little rusty) and started creating their own math board games. Most of the students seemed to really enjoy this activity and were able to create engaging and educational board games to share with the rest of the class.
Next week we will being a brief unit on Measurement. Students will rotate to all five 4th grade teachers next week during math time (12:30-1:30) to learn about a specific type of measurement. I will teach them about weight on Monday and then on Tuesday they will go to Mr. Wellman to learn about length... and so on... Please let me know if you have any questions about this. We are trying this out in hopes to create more excitement among the students. This is not permanent.
If you have time at home, please practice multiplication facts with your child. This reinforcement at home can help students with their math fact fluency.
Language Arts
Word Study: Will be back in full swing on Monday!
Writing: This week we worked on writing New Year's Resolutions. Next week we will continue learning to write expository work.
Reading: Students enjoyed reading good fit books for pleasure. Next week we will start reading fiction books in guided reading groups.
Social Studies
This unit starts with a lifelike simulation where students pretend they are on a voyage to the New World chartered by either Portugal or Spain. We will share more about this will you next week!
