**As the end of trimester two approaches, we wanted to share that on progress reports, we will be shifting away from assigning your student a letter "level" that corresponds with whether they are reading "at grade level," and towards more specific reading assessment data. The intention of this is to help you know which reading skills your student is proficient in and which they might need support with so that you have a clearer picture of your student as a reader.
Message from Principal Noyes
Hello Clifford community,
January has closed its doors and we've already stepped into February. We are getting close to the end of the 2nd trimester, which means upcoming parent-teacher conferences. Parent-teacher conferences are a crucial opportunity for students to have their academic progress and overall well-being discussed between parents, teachers, and the student themselves. Your involvement in this process is vital to ensure that the student is receiving the support and guidance they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
By participating in parent-teacher conferences, you can stay informed of your child's strengths, areas for improvement, and goals for the future. You can also ask questions and provide valuable insights into your child's behavior and learning style, which can help teachers better support your child's academic and personal growth.
'
Additionally, student attendance at the conference demonstrates their responsibility and engagement in their own education, helping to foster a sense of ownership and accountability for their academic progress. Additionally, giving space for student voice affirms that they are also a partner in their own growth and achievement. I encourage you to make every effort to attend the upcoming parent-teacher conference, as it is an important opportunity to work together to ensure your child's success.
During the month of February, we are excited to celebrate Black History Month and honor the African American heroes of our country and the significant ways they have triumphed and struggled throughout our country's history. We also get to celebrate Valentine's Day, which is a day we celebrate kindness and friendship at Clifford. Each classroom may celebrate a little differently, so check in with your child's teacher about upcoming festivities.
As we move closer to Spring, we have a lot of events to put on your calendar. Read through the newsletter for important updates and events to mark down on your calendar in the next few weeks. Before you know it, it will be June :)

Black History Month February 1- March 1
As February marks Black History Month, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of African Americans to our nation's history and culture.
From scientist George Washington Carver to civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Black Americans have made immeasurable contributions to our society. Their bravery, ingenuity, and determination serve as an inspiration to us all, and it is crucial that we learn about and honor their legacy.
At our school, we believe in promoting cultural awareness and understanding, and this month provides us with a unique opportunity to do so. Our teachers and staff are dedicated to incorporating lessons and activities that celebrate Black history, and we encourage our students to become active learners and participate in these educational experiences.
In conclusion, let us join together in recognizing the achievements and contributions of African Americans, and let us continue to work towards a future that values diversity, equity, and inclusion for all.

Attendance
Attendance is a critical factor in student success, and we want to ensure that all of our students are able to attend school regularly. Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform better academically and are less likely to fall behind in their studies.
It is important for students to arrive to school on time and to attend all classes, as each day of instruction is an opportunity for them to learn and grow. Additionally, punctuality is a valuable life skill that will serve students well beyond their time in school.
We understand that there may be instances where your child is unable to attend school, such as due to illness. In these cases, please make sure to contact the school to report the absence.
We appreciate your support in ensuring that your child attends school regularly and arrives to school on time. If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Keeping Kids Safe in a Digital World
As the use of technology continues to grow, it is more important than ever to ensure the safety of our students while they use digital devices. The internet and other forms of technology have the potential to be a powerful tool for learning and exploration, but they also come with risks.
It is our responsibility as educators and parents to educate students on how to use technology in a responsible and safe manner. Here are a few tips to help keep your child safe while they use technology:
- Monitor their device usage and the websites they visit.
- Encourage them to never share personal information, such as full name, address, or phone number, with anyone they meet online.
- Teach them to be cautious of online strangers and to never arrange to meet someone they've met online in person.
- Ensure that privacy settings are set up on their device to help protect their personal information.
We also encourage families to have open and honest conversations with their children about the dangers of technology and how to use it responsibly. By working together, we can ensure the safety of our students while they navigate the digital world.
If you have any questions or concerns about technology safety, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
