Baseball in the 1930s and now
Bailee Newcomer
Negro Leauge
In 1946, the firs black person to join a non-negro league was Jackie Robinson, this started the movement of integration to play baseball. Nowadays, all teams have many races, not even just black or white. There is American, African-American, Hispanic, Chinese and many more.
For example, on the Royals, there is Lorenzo Cain. He was a 2014 MVP of the American League, he was MVP of the AL Division. In 2015, he batted .307, had 16 home runs, 101 scored, 72 RBI's and 28 stolen bases. Lorenzo Cain is a really good baseball player, even though he is black. Over the years, it has come to conclusion that ALL races are just as good as baseball as another.
Gloves
Catchers used a "pillow style mitt". This style was created so you can drop the ball easily, to throw it back quick. This made the ball really stick to the glove, though the catcher still had to use both hands. If the catcher failed to use two hands while catching the ball, the hand would be exposed to harm, or jammed fingers.
Gloves Now:
The gloves made now are improved- the way the look and the way they affect how you play/injuries. The 1950's really started this movement in improving the glove. There are specialized gloves, that are made for your hand. They are made out of vinyl and plastic nowadays, rather than leather.
Baseball teams/stadiums in the 1930's and Now
In the 1930's, there was only 16 teams in the MLB. Of those 16, only 11 are teams that still exist today. A major team in the 1930s was the New York Yankees. The stadium was built with right field stands enlarged in three decks, and the wooden bleachers advanced to concrete, with the distance of center field enlarging to 490-461 feet!
In the 1930s, this is the time when the first ever number was retired (number 4, Lou Gehrig). So from here on out numbers had been retired.
2010s:
Now, the stadium has A LOT of advancements. There is a Babe Ruth plaza, TWO Hard Rock Cafes, THREE monument parks, TWO NY steaks, and an advance jumbo-tron and score board.
The yankees have progressed since the 1930s, winning more and more games and becoming more popular. They had a bunch of stand out players, one being Derek Jeter. This shows how the PLAYERS have advanced, meaning my next topic....
