NEWS FROM THE CORRAL
September 26, 2015
Good afternoon Pony Parents,
We are excited to announce GMS has 66 students qualify for the Duke Talent Search. This honor is based on performance on our state assessment. To learn more about Duke TIP please visit our Adavanced Academic webpage. http://www.gcisd-k12.org/Domain/53
Students who take th PSAT for several years prior to their junior year increase their chances of achieving National Merit status. As a middle school parent begin educating yourself now in this process. If you have any questions please call our counselors. It's never too early to think about the future!
Each month GMS staff honors Teachers and Para of the month. This honor includes the highly sought after designated parking space for the month! For September colleagues chose Mrs. Lilly Monson and Mrs. Nancy Quick as Teachers of the Month, and Mr. Jerry Cooper as Para of the month. Mrs. Monson teaches 6th grade ELA STEM and is one of the Department Learning Leaders. Mrs. Quick serves our students in Special Services and is the Department Leader for her content. Mr. Cooper is our Campus Technologist and his challenge is to keep every electronic device in our building operating every minute of every day! Congratulations to these deserving colleagues who are three more reasons GMS is a great place to learn!
GMS is committed to spreading @gms YOU Matter to our community, and Friday our Student Council delivered Thank You notes and cookies to our local Grapevine Police Department. Officer Moses Cabrera is our GMS officer and helps us provide a safe and secure environment for our students. Thank you to all Grapevine PD for all you do to keep our community safe!

Our PTA is still in need of parents / grandparents to fill roles on our Board. One great need is a representative for each grade level. If you are able to assist in anyway please email me. PTA is an important part of the GMS Team and we need YOU! Board meetings are held once a month at 8:30 a.m. in the GMS Lecture hall. If you are interested we would love to find you a place to assist.
GMS will be placing an order for long sleeve spirit wear on September 28th. We have also had many requests to design a t-shirt which matches our @gms You Matter! initiative so those are for purchase as well. Don't miss the opportunity to show your Pony spirit!

GCISD has formed a Facility Innovation and Readiness Stakeholder Team (FIRST) to study and prioritize ways to create the best possible learning environment for GCISD students. This Team meets every other Tuesday and all minutes and updates are uploaded on their webpage. This is a critical time for our district as we look towards the future and what the educational needs will look like for our graduates. The FIRST website link: http://www.gcisdfirst.net/index.html
