SES Family and Community Newsletter: Sept. 2022
JCPS Goal: By the end of the 2023-24 school year, 100% of Johnston County Public Schools will earn a school letter grade of A, B, or C.
Our vision:
SES students are life-long learners encouraged by home, school, and the community. They will meet the challenges and high expectations of an ever-changing world. They will work to their fullest potential to make a positive difference in the school, community, and the world.
Welcome to Our Family and Community Newsletter
DEAR SES FAMILIES,
We completed our first whole week of teaching and learning at SES. Our students are ready to learn and to get accustomed to their daily routines.
School letter grades and growth reports were released . Selma Elementary is four percentage points away from achieving our district goal, "By the end of the 2023-24 school year, 100% of Johnston County Public Schools will earn a school letter grade of A, B, or C."
During the 2021-22 school year, Selma Elementary receive a D (51) school letter grade score. Our school's overall status is exceeded growth. Based on our growth index Selma Elementary ranked among the top 10 percent of schools in North Carolina. It ranked 135 out of 2,532 schools across the State. Because Selma E also exceeded growth, we did not fall into a low-performing school category. These results demonstrate that we are on the right path to achieving our goals. We will share more achievement and growth data information on Sept. 29th during our Title I open house event. However, below we have included a link to a data overview of our performance. We are committed to continuing our journey towards ensuring every student at Selma E. masters the skills needed for college, career, and life success. We are proud of our progress in such a short amount of time.
Parents, we need your support. You play a crucial role in your child's success at school. You can support your student by asking about their day and promoting a positive attitude about school and learning. This year our big focus is school attendance. Please make sure your child attends school every day. School attendance and engagement are essential and directly related to academic performance. It is equally vital your student comes to school on time and remains at school the whole day. Attending school for the entire day demonstrates a commitment to success. Working together, our students will achieve high levels of learning.
Please consider joining our PTCO. We are also looking for volunteers to help us with activities and school events.
It takes all of us to have to build an outstanding school community. We appreciate your support.
Respectfully,
Ms. Rosado

CKH Social Contract Focus Word
We will continue to highlight our social contract focus word of the month and challenge our SES family to participate in challenges related to the word each week. The focus words are concepts commonly found on social contracts and will help to keep us all focused on upholding the things we’ve agreed to do and value. Each month the word is different, and every week, students can participate in challenges that allow them to practice the social contract focus word of the month. Every student, family, and staff member can do the challenges! The social contract focus word this month is empathy. Please take a look at the challenges for this month and discuss or participate with your child at home.
Focus word of the month challenges for September can be found here.
