November 2019
Principal's Note
Well, we went from summer to winter in just a couple of days. Welcome to Indiana weather, right? Winter weather often brings on the yucky germs. We've already seen a dip in our attendance rate due to illnesses. Please remember each student is allowed 10 excused absences for the year. Anything above 10 requires we develope an attendance plan. Schools are required to submit attendance data for all students to the Indiana Department of Education. Information about our attendance policy can be found in the elementary handbook or you can call me with any questions.
We are partnering with Waldron Baptist again this year to collect food for their pantry. Their pantry serves all of our community. The drive will take place November 18-22. The class that collects the most items will receive a special prize from Waldron Baptist. Grandparents can also get involved this year. Take a look at information for Games with Grandparents event. We continually talk about and encourage students to make their classroom a better place. When their classroom is a better place our school is a better place. Then, when our schools are a better place our community is a better place. This is a great way to give back to our community and make it better.
Looking ahead we have some wonderful family events planned. We hope you are able to attend our Family STEM Night on November 19th. Mr. Rader is coordinating the evening filled with many science activities for all participants. Parents, how many of you remember going to the Star Lab when you were in school? Well, we will have the new and improved Star Lab for everyone to visit---even parents! The doors will open at 5:00.
On November 21st, the PTO is hosting Games with Grandparents. Grandparents are invited to spend some time at the school playing a game with their grandchildren. Grandparents, you can also participate in our canned food drive. You will receive a ticket for a chance to win a movie and dinner night with your grandchildren when you donate non-perishable items. You can receive up to 10 tickets.
We hope to see you Monday, November 11th at the Waldron Community Veteran's Day Celebration. It will begin at 1:30 at the high school.
If you have any questions, share news about your child, or just want to say hello, please do! I enjoy spending time with you and learning more about your family! My door is always open.
Stay warm and have a great week!
It's a Great Day to be a Mohawk!

Related Arts Notes
Mrs. Karnes is at Morristown Elementary this nine weeks. She will return to WES on January 6th.
PE
Students continue to work on balance, building strength, and competency of locomotor skills. It is important for students to wear tennis shoes on gym weeks or to bring their tennis shoes to change into for safety reasons.
Music
It’s so wonderful to be back to WES! We are working hard in the music room learning the songs for the Veterans Day program. We have also started singing some Christmas songs! I know, it seems a little early, but our program will be here before you know it. WES will present “A Very Stafford Christmas” on Wednesday, December 4 at 7:00 pm in the High School Gym. Students in grades K-5 will be joining together to sing my favorite Christmas songs. It will be bittersweet to direct my last Christmas program, but I’m glad it’s happening in Waldron where I started my music career.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
>If there is a change in your child's afternoon transportation, you must call the school office and let us know. The office will generate a change in transportation form, "red note". The "red note" signals to the bus drivers and dismissal crew there is a change. If we don't receive that call, students will be sent home their "normal" way.
