D.A.D.S. Group Meeting TONIGHT, January 17, 7PM
Jog-a-Thon is COMING SOON
“What is Jog-a-thon?” you ask? It is a fun 20 minute run around the P.E. track as parents and teachers cheer on the students and often run alongside them. As we celebrate heart health in February, the Foundation is also raising money to keep programs like Science, Technology, Art, Music and PE at Park Village.
Next Friday, January 24, your child will be bringing home a Jog-a-thon packet with an envelope attached. In the packet, you will see a Donation form, a Prizes and Incentives sheet, and a FAQ sheet explaining the Jog-a-thon in detail. Donations can be made in cash, check, or online at http://99pledges.com/fund/ParkVillage2020
Grade levels will be assigned running times to go to the back field with their classes and run the track for 20 minutes. Each class will have a designated color, and students, teachers and parents alike will be encouraged to wear a shirt in that color (it makes it easier to spot each other and cheer them on as they run by!). Your classroom teachers and room parents will let you know next week what your assigned color is.
In the meantime, start thinking about who you can count on to support your child in the Jog-a-thon! Our online Jog-a-thon donations will make it easier for family and friends to give to a worthy cause. Stay tuned for next week’s Penguin Newsletter and look for an email from room parents, where we will include a school-wide schedule of running times and class colors, and talk about donations, prizes and the BIG SCHOOL-WIDE INCENTIVE that has become a tradition of the Jog-a-thon.

Planetarium Coming to the MPR for Astronomy Night January 25th!
Come to this all free event from 5:30 to 8:00 on Saturday evening the 25th. There will be three 40 minute planetarium shows, starting at 5:40, 6:30, and 7:20. When you arrive, pick up tickets for the showtime you would like. Now when families use the Box Tops app to scan their store receipt, they can "Give Credit" to a teacher! To "Give Credit" make sure you have the latest version of the Box Tops app, scan your receipt, then tap the star icon to enter your "Give Credit" memo.
You can still clip Box Tops on packages & send them to school. Physical Box Top clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. Send your clipped Box Tops, along with any unexpired clips you may have at home, to your teacher.

Volunteer Opportunities for 2019 - 2020
Park Village prides itself on our programs and events. However, they are all run by parent volunteers, and we need your help! We have opportunities of all types and sizes. Even one hour once a month can make a difference!
- Library - Help reshelve books. This task is constant and can happen any time of day. Perhaps you can help after morning drop-off or while waiting to pick up your child in the afternoon? You can make a difference in as little as 15-20 minutes. I just need folks to stop by regularly. Many hands make light work! No experience is required. If you’re interested, please email me at sfleming@powayusd.com, or stop by the library to chat.
- Recycling - Help sort and crush recycling. Second Wednesday of every month, 8-9 am, ESS Parking Lot. Even 15-30 minutes before school is a big help!. Contact Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com.
- Science Night Volunteers - You will oversee a station while our little ones sharpen their science skills with their parents. Please sign up for a night when your own child is not attending - PV Science Night Volunteers. Contact Shannon Nellies at s.nellies72@gmail.com.
- Marquee Editor in Chief(s) - Update the marquee in the front of the school with our PVE news, and help keep our families informed! Contact Gigi in the office.
Parking Lot Reminders
Please remember that the parking lot is for teachers and staff only, with the exception of the clearly marked visitor spots. We have many support staff members whose hours begin after class is in session. When they have to spend their time searching for parking off campus, it negatively impacts our student services. Thank you for your help!
