Navy 4-H Military Liaison News
July 12, 2018
Happy Summer! For some of you, we may be in the middle of your summer season while others may be winding down with school starting in just a few weeks. For Navy CYP programs, summer is full of programming. I know some of you are involved with activities on base, and I can't wait to hear about your programming.
We will have another call (details are below) July 31 at 2 p.m. EST. This is a chance for us to network, brainstorm, and share together. I hope you can join us. Feel free to invite those in Extension who work with the installations as well. We'll record the call and summarize our notes and post in our 4-H Dropbox for those who can not join us.
Recently, Meredith Butler asked for input for the revision of the 4-H Military Partnership Website. If you have not had a chance, please take a few minutes to share your experiences and suggestions. The link to the survey is https://kstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bw7jKEmoJSvxtMV This is a great opportunity to share what you'd like to see on the site as well as what's working well for you.
This newsletter is designed for Extension personnel. If you would like to add other Extension educators or staff, please send names and emails to me through the state 4-H military liaison. I encourage you to copy and share any information with our installation staff or other Extension educators as you feel appropriate.
As a reminder, if you are a Facebook user we have a group just for our Extension liaisons. The group is 4-H Military Liaisons. Ask to join and we'll connect you here as well. We share announcements and information you may want to share with your installations and others working with 4-H. It's an easy tool for information.
Please let me know how I can help you make the best better. Whether it's tools that you need, information I can share, or answers I may find, it's my pleasure to support you.

Found in the Navy E-Library: CYP Glossary of Terms
If you find yourself overwhelmed by terminology, the CYP Glossary of Terms may be a great place to start. The glossary is designed for Navy installation staff and includes everything from genetic diseases that you may have in a CDC (Child Development Center) to the definitions of CDC and SAC.
The Glossary is just one of many documents you'll find accessible in the Navy E-Library and is a great way to better communicate and understand the installation staff you are working with to support military-connected youth.
National Youth Science Day
Navy CYP encourages installations to participate in National Youth Science Day in either SAC or Teen (or both) programs. This year's Code Your World kit is on-sale for pre-order. Supporting Navy installations in providing kits is a great avenue to connect and continue to build relationships with the programs. The sale continues to late July (according to the website)
We will be discussing state plans for National Youth Science Day to generate ideas and possibilities on our next Connect Call. Additionally, if you provide a training for volunteers (including installations) for National Youth Science Day, I'd love to hear more and have you share on our call.
Productivity Tip for July
Connection Call
This month we will check in with summer activities and share the programs we have planned to kick off the school year and support National Youth Science Day. Our call is open to 4-H Military Liaisons as well as the county educators who work directly with installations. Please feel free to share in the invitation with others as appropriate. We are geared towards those who work with our Navy connected youth and while all our folks may have Navy youth in their community, I think the time we spend on the call is most effective for those who have a targeted audience of Navy connected young people.
We will record our call and post the notes and the recording in our dropbox. To join the
meeting from your computer, tablet or smartphone, go tohttps://global.gotomeeting.com/join/669524677
