The end of Quarter 1 is upon us. Please remember that Monday, 10/19/20 is a teacher planning day and there is no school for students. As we move into quarter two, please remind your students of the importance of turning their work in on time and communicating with their teachers if they need additional support. Also, mySchool online students, please remember to attend your ZOOM sessions daily in order to be successful. Finish this quarter strong Wildcats!

Change of placement request for semester 2

Wesley Chapel High School is already preparing for the second semester that begins on January 6, 2021. In order to properly allocate teachers and resources, we are requiring families to notify the school by November 13 if they want to change their student's educational model for the second semester. Requests received after this date will be placed on a wait list and could be changed if space becomes available.

Only parents/guardians are allowed to complete this form. Student requests will not be processed. One form should be submitted for each student in the household that attends WCHS. If you do not want a change of placement, please do not complete the form.

The school may not be able to process an additional request to change the option in this form after it has been submitted.

Changing your option will result in the student's schedule being adjusted. This includes potential changes to their teachers and/or courses from the first semester.

Families that are requesting to be changed to mySchool Online must have internet access and a device for their student. WCHS no longer has loaner devices for students.

Equal Opportunity Schools Survey (Please complete)

Equal Opportunity Schools (EOS) is an organization that assists Wesley Chapel High School in examining and developing a positive learning culture. In addition to that, EOS provides strategies to increase student participation in challenging high school coursework.

To support these goals, we are encouraging all 10th and 11th grade students to complete a survey before October 21, 2020. This survey will address students' views on their coursework, school experience, and the ways that WCHS supports their educational goals. Results will only be used to inform and improve academic supports for students now and in the years to come.

We encourage you to discuss the survey with your students and welcome any feedback that you provide. We also are appreciative of the continued support and partnership that we have with all parents and guardians.

Due to COVID, we are not currently allowed to host some of the fundraisers that have raised money in the past. Please consider donating to these groups. Prepare to Launch Session from Target

Do you know what it takes to launch a successful life and career? Target is hosting Prepare to Launch, a 4-session virtual series starting Friday, October 16th, featuring employees and executives from over 24 companies (see attachment). You will get to meet these amazing speakers, along with successful tech entrepreneurs as they share stories, lessons learned, and must-have skills that have advanced their careers. We hope to see you there and can't wait to help you launch yourself into a successful future! Students will need an SRA to participate.

2020-21 Athletic Procedures Updates

Pasco County Schools has revised its rules regarding the wearing of masks on school district property. The change only applies to outdoor athletic events. For all indoor activities, masks are still required. The revised mask rule is similar to what patrons experience when visiting a local business or restaurant.

Effective immediately:

  • At outdoor athletic events, patrons may remove masks when seated at the event. Patrons still are required to wear masks when arriving at the event and while walking to the stands. Masks also are required when patrons leave their seats to visit the concession stands or restroom, and when leaving the event.

The school district will continue to reexamine COVID-19 protocols when appropriate, while keeping the health and safety of students, staff, and the community as our highest priority.

· Open to all Juniors and Seniors; exceptional sophomore circumstances will be considered

· Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA across all classes and a minimum 3.5 GPA in science courses

· Must be currently enrolled in an upper level science class

· Current 11th graders

o Must have completed at least 1 honors science class prior to the start of 11th grade

· Current 12th graders

o Must have completed at least 2 honors science classes prior to the start of 12th grade

· Pay an annual dues membership fee

o Seniors - $27 (annual dues-$15, graduation cord-$12)

o Juniors (and others) - $15 (annual dues-$15)

· Attend all Science National Honor Society meetings

· Participate in all Science National Honor Society activities and projects

· Complete 4 hours of community service per school year

mySchool Online ID Cards

If you had your picture taken, student ID cards have been delivered. If you are an online student, you may come pick up your ID in the front office from 2:15PM to 3:15PM Monday-Friday.

Senior Pictures

Seniors, you must get your photo taken by Gigante no later than October 31st if you want it to appear in the senior section of the yearbook. Gallup Student Letters

National Gallup Student Poll

Students in grades 5 - 12 will be invited to participate in the Gallup Student Poll in late September. The Gallup Student Poll provides students with a forum to express the opportunities and challenges in their daily lives. The Gallup Student Poll is designed to aid educators in providing a more focused education -- one that builds engagement creates hope for the future, fosters talent and prepares students to participate meaningfully in our nation's economy by finding or creating a good job.

Gallup administers the poll and then aggregates and analyzes the results. The 24 core survey questions, demographic items, and additional index items will take the average student about 10 minutes to complete. The survey will be accessible through myPascoConnect. There will be a gray Gallup icon that will be pushed out to all students’ dashboards on Monday, September 28, 2020. This year, students will be taking the survey during schools hours from September 28 - October 26.

The 24 core items on the Gallup Student Poll measure and provide actionable data on four dimensions of student success:

  • Engagement: The involvement in and enthusiasm for school. Engaged students are excited about what’s happening at their school and what they’re learning. Engaged students contribute to the learning environment, and they are psychologically committed to their school.
  • Hope: The ideas and energy students have for the future. Hope has also been linked to student success in school. Hopeful students are positive about the future, are goal-oriented and can overcome obstacles in the learning process, enabling them to navigate a pathway to achieve their goals.
  • NEW Belonging: Feeling accepted and included as part of the school. Students with a sense of belonging know there is an adult on their side and feel like valued members of their learning community.
  • NEW Social and Emotional Learning: How people learn to understand and manage emotions and establish positive relationships with others.

Prevention Methods for COVID-19

Please support our efforts to keep our students and staff healthy. Screen your student daily using the Student Screener and contact a medical provider for further guidance if your student develops symptoms or you need medical guidance. COVID-19 testing is available in the community. Contact the school nurse (RN) or administrator immediately if your student receives a positive COVID-19 test result.

Prevention measures for COVID-19:

o The best way to prevent illness is by limiting exposure to the virus.

o Maintain proper social distancing (about 6 feet).

o Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

o If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

o Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

o Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering when around others.

mySchool Online Zoom Meetings

Parents of mySchool online students. Students are required to log into their zoom classrooms using their legal first and last names. Also, please remind your students that they need to be dressed appropriately for their zoom classes. Students not following the rules will not be admitted to class and may be marked absent.

Students Leaving Campus for Lunch and Lunch Delivery Services

Parents, please remind your students that they are not allowed to leave campus for lunch. It is a safety risk and we need them to remain on campus for lunch.

Also, we are not allowed to have food delivery services for students on campus. This is a district policy and a safety issue to have strangers on campus.

Mask Procedures

When to Wear a Cloth Face Covering (Mask)

· The school district requires that all students, visitors, and employees wear a mask or other face covering while on school property and/or engaged in school activities, including outdoors when unable to maintain a distance.

· Transportation

· If you are a car rider, you should apply your face covering when you arrive at school before exiting your car in the parking lot.

· If you are a bus rider you should apply your face covering when you arrive at the bus stop. Face masks will be required on school buses.

When can I remove my Cloth Face Covering (Mask)

· You can remove your face covering when you are outdoors and able to maintain at least a safe distance from others, and at end of the day after you have exited the building.

· You can remove your face covering during meal and snack times. To the extent possible, maintain a 6 ft distance from others when you have your mask off.

· If occupying an office space by yourself, you can also safely remove your mask but should be ready to reapply as soon as others approach you.

Face Masks

Please remind your students to wear a face mask and keep their mouth and nose covered. This is for the protection of your student, other students, and staff members. Our number one goal is to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Wildcat masks can be ordered through your fees in your myStudent account. Keep an eye out for our school spirit store opening soon!

Bus Transportation Information for 2020-2021

Families can access information regarding bus transportation here. Information is provided in English and Spanish. Please contact the Transportation Call Center to assist with questions or concerns during the first week of school between 6 am - 10 am and 2 pm - 6 pm. Student Parking Passes

  • Students must purchase parking passes ($40) through myStudent fees.
  • All parking passes will be distributed during lunches during the first two weeks of school. Mr. Garza will distribute parking passes during lunch only.
  • Students must have a copy of their driver's license, registration, and insurance in order to receive a parking pass.
  • All new drivers must complete the Safe Behind the Wheel Canvas course located on our school website. Click here to access the course and complete it as soon as possible.
  • All students, including students who drove last year, must purchase a new parking pass each year and update all vehicle information.
  • Students parked without a permit may have their car booted.

Emergency Card Information and Directions

The Parent Legal Notices and Emergency Card entry for families has in the myStudent system as of 8-4-20. Emergency cards must be complete before access to myStudent will be available.
