Summer Book Club - One Time Meeting on July 14 for Current 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders
Are you currently in third, fourth, or fifth grade? Well, we have something special planned for you this summer! The media specialists at Wims ES, Clarksburg ES, Little Bennett, and of course, Mrs. Hirschhorn, are hosting a very special one-time book club meeting. We'll be discussing Pie in the Sky by Remy Lai. Read the book before our meeting on Sunday, July 14 from 3:00-4:00 PM at the Frederick location of Beyond Comics. If you need a copy of the book, you can order a paperback copy for $10.40. ALL ORDERS MUST BE IN BY JUNE 7 so that the book can be delivered to your child before the last day of school. You can RSVP and order a book from this RSVP link. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Hirschhorn.
Math Olympiad
The Math Olympiad contest came to a close in March. Cedar Grove sponsored 3 teams this year and our students were among 160,000 participants spanning 35 countries. We would like to congratulate the following winners. In Ms. Ward's class, Rohit Marimuthusa was the winner. Sedric Su was the overall winner in Miss Troup's class. In Mr Oedemann's class, Grace Wang and Dylan Tran tied and both scored in the top 10% We congratulate all of our participants this year and look forward to next year's contest!
Media Morning Book Check-outs
Back by popular demand (and because she can't stay away from her students and books for too long) Mrs. Hirschhorn will again host the Media Mornings on specific Tuesdays in July and August. We hope your students can come in and check out summer reading books (we'll even check out books to incoming 6th graders!). Come in between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM on the following days:
July 2
July 9
July 16
August 6
August 13
These dates are also listed on our Web calendar for your convenience.
Summer Media Monthly
Summer is here, and that means we need to exercise our brains every day! And Cedar Grove is doing everything we can to give our students the opportunities to do that. We have spent this entire week in the media center exploring our summer reading and math goodies (yes, even those for Wims!), so ask your student to tell you all about them! Please check out the Summer Media Monthly for more information and links to all kinds of fabulous resources!
Summer is A Great Time to Read!
Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) invites all students to participate in this year’s Summer Reading Program, which will begin Saturday, June 15 and run until Saturday, August 31. This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories,” encouraging children of all ages to dream big, believe in themselves, and create their own stories. Space is featured in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Children from newborns to 12 years old and teens, 13-17 years of age, are invited to sign up online or at any branch.
Participants who read and/or take part in fun learning activities can earn prizes (while supplies last); vouchers to a Friends of the Library, Montgomery County (FOLMC) bookstore; or raffle entries.
Summer Read and Learn also includes many different programs and events generously sponsored by FOLMC and local Friends of the Library chapters. Schedules of programs are on the Library’s calendar of events.
