Reopening on September 28th!

We want to thank all families for their continued understanding and patience as we make efforts to open schools for the 2020-21 school year. Thanks to the hard work of our staff we are ready to open all schools for Comprehensive Distance Learning on Monday, September 28th.

We hope all the planning and work we have done this week prevents any technology issues on Monday. We ask all parents to utilize the guidance in this newsletter to support their child(ren) in logging in and being ready for the first day of school. If you have difficulty logging in Monday you can email david.bolin@nsantiam.k12.or.us for assistance. We will be ready to support you.

We have a limited number of Verizon Hotspots for families in need. Our first shipment has arrived. If your family has a need, please click on this link and fill out the form. Click this link for Spanish form.

What is Canvas?

The District has selected Canvas as our learning management system (LMS) for grades K-12. Think of Canvas as your student's virtual classroom. The District selected Canvas to provide a consistent platform K-12 to support students and parents managing Comprehensive Distance Learning. The Canvas LMS puts everything in one spot for your child(ren). They will access all their assignments, grades, course content, and interact with their teacher and classmates.

Parents can sign up as observers in Canvas. Observers can link their Canvas accounts to their student's account to see assignments, grades, due dates, announcements and course content. Having this access will greatly assist parents in partnering with teachers to provide a richer learning experience. To prepare parents and students, we are including training videos to get you ready for the start of the school year. Teachers will be supporting students in using Canvas the first few weeks of school.

What Can Parents Do?

Here are some great steps parents can take:

  1. Help your child(ren) login to their District Gmail Account and access Canvas.
  2. Have your student watch the Canvas Overview below.
  3. Set up your Parent Observer Account
  4. Attend a help session: Thursday, Sept. 24 10:00 am.
  5. Participate in a "soft start" session on Thursday or Friday (Your school will communicate this schedule).
  6. Report any issues to helpdesk@nsantiam.k12.or.us
  7. Make sure your child(ren) use their first and last name when logging into Zoom or Google Meets session with their teachers.
