News to share....
Email Migration- The state of Kentucky is doing a mail migration from 4/26 - 4/30 and during this time ALL Boone County email will be shut down for maintenance. Please be aware that any email sent to BCS addresses beginning 4/26 will not be received until 5/1/2018. There is a possibility that some email may not be received at all during this time frame.
Middle School Transition Information-
Those attending Gray Middle school next year: Monday April 23rd- Parent Orientation Night 6:30 - 8:00 @ Gray, / Friday April 27th Gray Gator Dance/Social 7-8:30, / Monday-August 6th- 6th grade Orientation 9:00-11:00.
Kindergarten registration- Thank you so much for helping us get the word out about kindergarten registration. It's so important to get the registrations done during this time of year so that we can plan accordingly for classes. When we have many families that wait right before school it causes overcrowding of classes, and inevitably hiring/and moving kids- which NO ONE- myself especially, wants to do that.
Walk-a-thon / Field day- We will be sending out Walk-a-ton forms with students after spring break. All proceeds will be going toward technology devices and upgrades and additional student programs (in-house experiences like planetarium, etc). Students will be completing the walk-a-thon on the Ryle track and then participating in a variety of field day activities. Specific information regarding the walk-a-thon will be sent home when students return! We do appreciate your support! - Date for Intermediate (3rd-5th) will be May 1st, and Primary (1st- 2nd) is May 3rd, and Kindergarten will be April 30th.
World Maker & Inventor Expo- This will be held on April 28th @ Boone County High School! come out to see the amazing projects that our kids are doing across the district!
International Festival: Has been rescheduled! Saturday, May 5th at Mann elementary from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. This day will be a multicultural world showcase, highlighting all different heritages and world cultures represented in all of our Boone county Schools. Please see the attached flyer.
5th grade promotion- May 21st @ 6:00 pm. New Haven Elementary
Last Day for Students: May 25th.
Celebrating Great Things!
Archery- Congratulations to New Haven's Archery team! They came in 12th out of 81 elementary archery teams across the state of Kentucky! Wow! I had the chance to watch them and they are amazing!
Repeats to Remember!
(Repeated Feb, March, Apr)
18 - 19 Placements
We have amazing teachers at New Haven, who all have a variety of strengths. I feel very strongly about the high expectations of teaching and learning, and the expertise of our teachers. I also know, as a teacher, that we all have different strengths and qualities that contribute to the success of the team. All grade levels are expected to work as a team allowing for all students to have the same experiences. Each teacher brings to the table an unique teaching style guided with the same standards. We take all of this into consideration as we begin to plan for the following year. Creating class lists really is a complex process because we look at, and consider many different criteria. We look at male / female ratios, achievement, needs (academic, social, emotional, etc), in addition to several other things. It is not a random process, but we also understand that sometimes there are other factors that need to be considered. We do not accept requests for specific teachers. Do not feel like you have to submit a request, I just am sharing what our procedure is for those that have had questions. I would also like to share that as we grow so does the need to add teachers to our staff, and some staff ask to change grade levels. The teachers that are on a grade level in one year may be different the following based on our growing needs.
So what does this mean?
We need you to be an integral part of your child's success throughout the year. You are their first teacher, and see something's that we do not. We will be accepting placement requests from parents this year; however; the requests will follow specific guidelines that will allow us to make the best match for student success. Requests are not guarantees, nor will all requests be honored. Ultimately it will be about creating the best learning environment for everyone, while trying to match the qualities that best meet your child's needs.
Request letters must:
- Explain what specific academic or social needs your child has.
- What qualities / characteristics in a teacher would best meet the needs of your child?
- Address other concerns if applicable to placement. (ex: health, personality conflicts, etc.)
- Be turned in to Mrs. Goble no later than Friday, April 27th. (Can be written or by email) mary.goble@boone.kyschools.us
Please DO NOT ask for a specific teacher or to be placed with a group of friends- these requests will not be considered.
