Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update
THOUGHTS and THANK YOUS
Dear Farley Families,
Gratitude this week goes to all of the Farley families and students who joined the fun during Home and School's Playground Meetups! It was so wonderful getting to meet new families and catch up with "veteran" Farley Foxes. I loved seeing all the students playing and connecting with new friends. During the Grades 1 and 2 Meetup on Tuesday, we got cooled off by the rain and Mother Nature gifted us a beautiful rainbow (pictured below). It was magical. Sadly, we will have to cancel tonight's Grades K and 4 Meetup as the weather is not going to cooperate.
Other thanks this week goes to all the caregivers who joined our "Coffee with the Principals" on Thursday and Friday. We had families attend both virtually and in-person. Participants had great questions, shared funny stories, and got to meet new faces. Special thanks to Lauren Grover for helping set up!
This weekend, my wife and I are attending an extra special wedding in Cambridge, MA. Two of my wife's former students, who met in one of the classes she teaches at MIT -Massachusetts Institute of Technology are getting married. Although she had these students in class over 10 years ago, she is still a part of their lives. We are beyond honored to get to part of their special day!
I hope you soak up every minute of fun during this last weekend before school starts! I can't wait for the school year to officially begin! If you have any last minute questions feel free to reach out!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
WELCOME MS. SCHOPP!
Ms. Catherine Schopp is an ESL teacher working with fourth grade this year! While this is her first year at Farley Elementary, she has been working in the Hudson School District for the last five years at Forest Avenue Elementary School. She is so excited to join the Farley family this year! Ms. Schopp grew up in the Berkshires, and currently live Waltham, MA. She adores the outdoors, and especially loves growing both indoor and outdoor plants. She also enjoys trying new recipes and spending time with friends and family. Some of her favorite things are… giraffes, the color purple, Reese’s cups, mystery novels and swimming!
She has always had a passion for learning language and exploring communities and cultures different from my own. A world traveler, Mrs. Schopp can communicate in Spanish, as well as in Portuguese! She is super excited to meet her students and our entire Farley staff next week! Welcome Ms. Schopp!

In addition, we want to update you with exciting news about universal free school meals. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has decided to extend free school meals for all students through the 2022-2023 school year! This means that breakfast and lunch will continue to be served at no cost to all students.
Please note that even though meals will be free for all, it is very important for families to still complete the household Application for Free and Reduced Price Meals for the 2022-2023 school year. You can view and complete the application here: https://www.hudson.k12.ma.us/departments/food_services/food_services_documents. We strongly encourage ALL families to submit this form as it allows us to establish eligibility for P-EBT benefits and serve families most effectively. Eligible students may also receive discounts on athletic fees.
In addition, please consider applying for SNAP, the federal nutrition program that provides eligible residents with monthly financial assistance to purchase groceries. More SNAP information can be found at gettingsnap.org or by calling Project Bread’s FoodSource Hotline at 1-800-645-8333.
The food and nutrition department at Hudson Public Schools thanks you for your patience awaiting this news! As always, we are grateful for the opportunity to provide nourishing and healthy meals to all Hudson Public Schools students so please reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
Best,

CHOOSE LOVE: District-Wide Social Emotional Curriculum
CHOOSE LOVE -A Message from the Superintendent's Office
Courage+Gratitude+Forgiveness+Compassion in Action=Choose Love
Save the Date:
September 21, 2022- Come learn about the social emotional learning curriculum Hudson Public Schools is implementing this school year. The program is called Choose Love and will be taught in preschool through grade 12. Attend the in-person Choose Love Kickoff-Keynote for Parents by Scarlett Lewis, founder of the Choose Love Movement. Scarlett Lewis will present at the Hudson High School auditorium from 7:00-8:30 in the evening. Parents will learn the researched benefits of the four character values of the Choose Love Formula and understand how vital they are to implement in our daily lives. The four units of Choose Love are Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action =Chose Love. Scarlet Lewis founded Choose Love after the death of her son, Jesse Lewis, in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Scarlet Lewis turned the pain of her loss into developing a social emotional program that provides strategies and tools to students. Choose Love helps children manage their emotions, feel connected, and have healthy, meaningful relationships.

In case you missed last week's Paw Prints, here a history and a more detailed description of the Boosterthon Fun Run:
Home and School has asked that I share an important message from them about our ONE and ONLY fundraiser of the year:
Greetings from Farley Home and School!
For the past three years, Farley Elementary School’s Home and School has partnered with Boosterthon experts to hold an exciting, school-wide Fun Run. This FUN RUN event is the ONLY MAJOR FUNDRAISER of the year. This Fun Run is a healthy alternative to traditional product sales that raises much-needed funds for our school. Family and friends anywhere in the world can support Farley by giving pledges to our student runners!
Typically held on Farley’s baseball field, the Boosterthon Fun Run event is a high-energy day, full of enthusiasm from students, staff, families, friends, and of course, Boosterthon team members. Each grade assembles on the field and has a blast running laps while our community cheers them on, waving homemade signs and snapping pictures. Upbeat music plays continuously through the speakers as Boosterthon team members join the students around the Boosterthon Speedway, dancing and running to themed laps. You may see students laughing in a conga line, whipping lassos around their heads, driving a racecar, or racing a Boosterthon team member. The goal of this event is to provide an enjoyable experience that builds community and school culture, while including fitness in the students’ school day.
So, you may be wondering, “What exactly happens during the Boosterthon Fun Run Fundraiser?” Here’s a quick run-down of what you can expect as part of our fitness, leadership, and character-based fundraiser.
About two weeks before the Boosterthon Fun Run event begins, students will learn about this year’s character-based theme. Each day brings new learning and another day closer to the Boosterthon Fun Run event. Our fun, fitness event will encourage your children to let loose, be active and play with their classmates! All caregivers, staff, and community members are invited to join us by attending the event and cheering on students as they run an average of 30-35 laps around the “Boosterthon Speedway”. The Boosterthon Fun Run event is designed to celebrate every student learning valuable character and leadership principles while helping their school.
Home and School is excited to kick off our Farley Fun Run on 09/12/2022. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for updated library resources and to support student events (like last year’s incredible cultural programs) throughout the school year to strengthen our school community.
Our school relies on this ONE and ONLY fundraiser for the year to provide exceptional opportunities to enhance student learning. We need YOUR HELP to make it successful. What can you do now? You can start by registering your student (register on MYBOOSTER.COM) and by sharing with friends and family. Mark your calendars for the Farley Fun Run fundraiser. It will be kicking off soon!
