The state of Texas mandates school districts to screen students for Vision and Hearing, Texas Risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes (a visual inspection of the back of the neck) and spinal screenings for scoliosis (spinal curvature). Hearing and Vision screenings are performed on grades KG, 1st, 3rd, 5th and any student new to the school district. Type 2 Diabetes screening is performed on 1st, 3rd, 5th. Spinal screenings are performed on female students 10 or older by August 24, 2020.
Students receiving virtual instructions will require an appointment for all screenings. Please call the Glenoaks School Nurse at 210-397-2300 to schedule an appointment.
*Parents may decline their student’s participation in the above screenings by notifying the School Nurse in writing and are encouraged to consult with the nurse regarding any questions or concerns.

What will the morning routine look like?
Before coming to school, you will need to complete the student health screener every day for your child. The screener can be completed as early as the day before anytime after 5:00 PM if it will help you with your morning rush.
Or if you prefer, you can scan the QR code for the student screener at the bottom of this section:
Upon arrival, a staff member will greet your child and take their temperature as an added layer of precaution and they will be provided hand sanitizer.
Parents will need to stay in the car, and your child will be escorted to class.
Breakfast is free to all students and a grab-n-go bag that will be eaten in the classroom if desired by students.
What are some of the health and hygiene practices that will be followed?
Upon entry to the building, students will be provided hand sanitizer.
Safe distancing rules will be followed at all times.
Masks must be worn at all times while inside the building. The masks should: cover the nose and mouth, be secure, and school appropriate. CDC guidelines will be followed.
Please send an extra clean mask to keep in their backpacks in case they need to change it.
Reusable masks should be cleaned daily.
Every teacher utilizes PPE equipment and cleaners to keep the classroom sanitized throughout the day.
There will be lots of supervised handwashing and sanitizer throughout the day.
Students need to bring their own water bottle. We have been provided a water bottle filling station.
What will lunchtime look like for the students?
Students will eat lunch in the cafeteria.
Masks will be worn to and from the cafeteria, but will not be worn while eating.
Safe distancing rules apply during lunch.
There will be plenty of supervision at lunch to assist students when needed.
Food deliveries are not permitted at any time.
Can I walk my child to class and eat lunch on campus?
At this time, we are not permitting parents to walk students to class or eat lunch on campus. As soon as the district guidelines are lifted, we will let you know.
Parents may be called to the school for a variety of reasons, but such visits are scheduled ahead of time.
If you need to come to campus for some reason, we ask that you give us a call before coming up. Our goal is not to make it harder on you, but to implement procedures that will keep all students and staff safe.
What if my child feels sick at school?
All teachers have been instructed on how to handle a variety of situations that may arise by our nurses.
We will still maintain the normal clinic for meds and minor issues.
For students who may be exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, we have a separate “care” clinic set up.
The nurse will assess each child and determine the next steps with the parent.
If your child is unable to attend school in person, we ask that you continue to attend virtually to the extent possible while recovering.
For any child who gets sick while at school, our custodial staff will provide extensive sanitation of the room.
A campus notification will be sent if there is a positive COVID-19 case at Glenoaks, and all parents of close contacts will be notified by phone.
What will dismissal look like?
At this time, parent pick-up will remain the same, and cars will drive through the front loop.
All parents should stay in their car. Please do not park and walk-up.
Students will be dismissed outside when you arrive.
Students are lined up by grade level.
Remember, dismissal begins at 3:10 pm now.
Please plan on exercising your patience! We will be as fast as we can.
DAILY ATTENDANCE/ENGAGEMENT AND GRADES
Daily attendance is taken for student participation in live lessons. We understand that some students are unable to participate in live lessons due to various reasons. If a student is unable to participate in a live lesson they still have the opportunity of being marked "Present" for the day by submitting work assignments through Schoology. Grades on submitted work are also being taken in all content areas (Reading, Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies) as well as Discovery Time (Music, PE, and Art) for grades K-5.
If you have any questions about grades or attendance please contact your child's teacher or reach out to me.
Present Remote Asynchronous (RA): A student must be marked Present Remote Asynchronous once they ENGAGE with the coursework for that same day through any one or more of the following measures:
1.Teacher/student interactions that same day (includes synchronous learning during scheduled times)
OR
2. Completion and submission of an assignment or task by the student on that same day (until 11:59 p.m.)
OR
3. Demonstration of progress that same day (as determined in Schoology)
Note: Only logging in to Schoology does not reflect engagement.
