Math
This week in math we wrapped up our work with number bonds. The students are ready to be creating number sentences and equations using pictures and numbers. We looked at number sentences in both directions and created our own math stories to help us practice. The students are starting to see the relationship between addition and identifying ALL of the items in a group.
Reading and Phonics
We are continuing to read books at our own level and practice the super powers we built with our reading muscles.
We are also working with digraphs both at the beginning and ending of words. There are several of these digraphs that we are starting to recognize such as "ch", "wh" and "ck". These can be hard to distinguish since many of them can sound so similar. This is an easy at home practice activity you can do with your child: try giving them a word with a digraph and have them identify the sound. If your child is confident at repeating the sound, start to ask them what two letters make up the digraph.
Dr. Seuss Week
This week we celebrated Dr. Seuss and all of his fantastic writing. This Saturday, March 2nd Dr. Seuss would be 115 years old! We read several of his stories such as "The Cat in the Hat", "Green Eggs and Ham", and "Fox in Socks". Dr. Seuss loved to rhyme and create wacky words, so we were able to practice our rhyming skills a lot this week!
