April Life Skill for the Month- “Making Wise Choices”
Making Wise Choices involves… making a choice that reflects what is true or right in our heart and mind; it means that we think through our choice, and we understand that the choices we make have consequences--either positive or negative (or sometimes both).
What wise choices might look like at school:
• Focusing on your teacher, so you can do your best learning.
• Choosing friends who play in a fair and kind way.
• Eating a healthy, balanced snack at recess.
• Working through problems by using your words.
• Using a dictionary to help you spell words.
• Cooling down when you feel angry or upset.
• Rereading the directions and rechecking your answers.
Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help your child this year!

SC READY and SC PASS Test Taking Tips
Kingston Elementary School end of the year state testing will occur on the last 20 days of school. The dates are posted below for students in grades 3-5. Students will test each morning beginning at 7:40am until they are done. The test is not timed but testing should last approximately one to two hours each day. It is important that parents get students to school on time and avoid making doctor appointments and scheduling other out-of-school functions during testing hours.
Brochures that contain resources regarding testing such as sample items, sample score reports, Score Report User’s Guide, and translations were sent home last week with students. Alternate formats for these resources are also available on the SCDE Website https://ed.sc.gov/tests/assessment-information/student-and-parent-resources/.
Testing Dates

Let's show our school spirit!
Students are encouraged to wear school colors or Kingston T-shirts every Friday. School colors are blue and white. Wearing school colors each week is a proactive way of reminding students to maintain our safe and caring school. Each class that has at least 50% or more students wearing school colors will have their class name entered in a drawing. Two classes will win the Cool Cat sign to be placed on their door for the week, as well as some type of incentive (candy, ice cream, chips, etc). Each week we hope to choose a different class. Please encourage your child to participate in Spirit Day every Friday!
Congratulations to our Spirit Day Winners, Mr. Lipak's 5th grade class and Mrs. Sawyer's 4th grade class!
