"I just love bossy women. I could be around them all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term at all. It means somebody’s passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn’t mind learning." — Amy Poehler

Learning Labs - Flex Learning (Gradual Return to Building) Learning Labs at ECE on Tuesdays/Thursdays Beginning March 16th and Mondays/Wednesdays Beginning April 5th from 12:15 - 3:00 for Identified Groups of Students.
HPS is beginning Learning Labs again. However, it is a gradual return to the building in phases to ensure safety for all. Students will not need backpacks or computers. Instruction will be teacher-led, hands-on, and engaging for students.
Q2 - Phase One: Flex Learning (Return to Building - Tuesday, March 2, 2021)
In anticipation of students returning to the building for instruction, a flex learning model will be implemented, including two components: 1) face-to-face (learning labs) and 2) virtual.
Flex learning combines face-to-face instruction (F2F) in the building with virtual learning on the computer at home. In the context of coronavirus school re-openings, a flex learning model would reduce the number of students in the building by delivering some of the course delivery online/virtual and some in learning labs (LL) in F2F instruction.
Learning labs (LL) take place in the school building and include small groups of identified students who are provided academic instruction/intervention by the teacher.
Identified ELL (newcomers) and SPED students (with IEPs or 504s) will attend learning labs in the building on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 - 3:00.
Q2 - Phase Two: Flex Learning (Return to Building - Tuesday, March 16, 2021)
An expansion of the number of students returning to the building for instruction will begin on March 16, 2021. These students (Cohort B) will meet on Tuesday and Thursday. The flex learning model will continue to be implemented, including two components: 1) face-to-face and 2) virtual, and will include at-promise students.
At-promise students are students who face challenges, but definitely have the potential to succeed. Some of these challenges include:
Students who are chronically absent and have missed twenty or more days of school
Students who have learning gaps and need additional support from the teacher
Students who are disengaged and rarely complete assignments and/or rarely participate in meetings
Expanded Learning labs (XLL) take place in the school building and include additional small groups of identified students who are provided academic instruction/intervention by the teacher, including at-promise, ELL, and SPED students.
Q2 - Phase Three: Flex Learning (Return to Building - Monday, April 5, 2021)
Continued expansion of the number of students returning to the building for instruction will begin on April 5, 2021. These students (Cohort A) will meet on Monday and Wednesday. The flex learning model will continue to be implemented, including two components: 1) face-to-face and 2) virtual, and will include at-promise students.
Parapros will continue to meet virtually with students in small groups. Parents, please make sure that your child attends these virtual small groups for academic success!
Students in Learning Labs and Required Safety Procedures.
At this time, a small number of students are being invited to return for instruction in learning labs to ensure the safety of everyone.
Please note that certain safety procedures will be implemented:
1. All students and staff MUST wear a mask at all times, including on the bus.
2. All students will work independently at their table using their own designated materials only to maintain 6 foot social distancing.
3. All students are eligible to receive food from the district, but they will need to eat prior to school or after school, as we will not serving food in school at this time.
Please Remember to Follow ECE's Expectations for Virtual Learning.
