EICS Board Highlights
September 19, 2018
Superintendent's Report
Opening Day Mass for all EICS staff, held on August 29, provided our Division with an opportunity to begin another successful school year by strengthening our faith in each other and within our community. Through the Offertory Collection at mass $2,541.55 was donated towards the Division's social justice project, Valeda House - a ministry of Catholic Social Services. During the 2017-18 school year, EICS raised over $32,000 through cash and in-kind donations. All Elk Island Catholic Schools and communities are encouraged to continue their support of Valeda House through prayers, as well as financially by donating to the Sign of Hope Campaign.
As a result of the Classroom Initiative Funding grant (CIF), EICS has allocated funds to improve students' experience in the classroom based on four identified areas: hiring certified teaching staff, hiring educational assistants, enhancing supports for complex learning needs and supports for English Language Learners. Based on proposals submitted by school administrators, EICS was able to hire educational assistants, teachers and support staff. Criteria for determining which schools received funding depended on each school's demonstrated level of needs and those with the least flexibility in their current budgets.
September and October continue to be busy months with a visit from the Minister of Education on September 19th, meetings with Vegreville Town Council, and MLA meetings. In fact, the next EICS Public Board Meeting will be held in Vegreville on October 17.
