Dare to be Different!
The New Guy's Observations: Week 1
- Our Teachers: The teachers have a passion for teacher and their students. They want every student to work hard and push themselves to grow and succeed. It was great seeing this in all the classrooms I visited.
- Our Students: The students are fun, kind, and thoughtful! They work hard in their classrooms and want to be successful. They have embraced "the new guy" and made me feel very comfortable as I've transitioned to the East culture.
- Continued Growth: There are areas East can continue to improve. Our immediate focus will concentrate on ensuring our transition procedures and daily operations help create the safest environment for the students. Next week we will be adjusting a few procedures to help improve some of these procedures. The procedures will be focused on the following areas:
- Lunchroom Behavior: Lunch is an important time for our students. Its a time students can talk with friend and relax. We also want to make sure the lunch room is an safe and positive place to enjoy their lunch. After observing all the lunches for the week we will focus on improving on some small areas. We want to make sure students have an appropriate volume level, remain in their seats during lunch, have an efficient dismissal process, and encourage personal responsibility for their actions in lunch.
- Building Dismissal: With over 1300 students exiting our building at one time there are some areas that get clogged with students. This process can be improved. There will be a few adjustments moving forward. Car riders and study tables will now be staggered from the bus dismissal
The details of these changes will be shared in a follow-up email.
As we focus on maximizing the student experience at East we know parent support is vital. Please continue encourage our students to be a positive impact in school. Knowing that we have 1300 students striving for excellence every day is inspirational. I'm looking forward to our growth and success!
